| HELP with chewing on walls So there is only one habit my little athena has that is a real problem. She likes to chew on walls. Its mainly in one place, but not always. the one place she mainly does it on is a place where the wall had been repaired. Someone told me some pups like the taste of plaster that you use to repair walls, so I thought that was what it was, but still didnt know how to stop her. Then she started chewing on the wall in other places, mostly the wood trim around our arche ways and door ways. I just repainted an aches way yesterday and BOOM shes sat there and did it right on front of me again. maybe its the taste of new paint? I dont know. At first I thought it was separation anxiety. Although she never did it when I actually LEFT my property, she would do it when I was in the shower or out in my yard working where she couldnt go, so I was there, but she couldnt get to me. But for example just now. she was literately sitting right underneath me chewing on the wall. So thats not separation anxiety. Shes 8 months old, and as far as I can tell done teething ( I guess I could be wrong about that) One person told me to crate her. well in order to keep her from chewing on the wall Id have to keep her crated 24/7, never know when shes going to do it. sorry but im not going to do that. thats no life for her to be caged up 24/7 an I dont believe in doing that. I mean whats the sense of having a dog if your going to keep them crated ALL THE TIME. I believe in doing it only for safety reasons and if safety reason consist of you keeping them caged 24/7, then you shouldn't have the dog. JMO I have tried the bitter apple NO CHEW spray and vinegar. neither one is working. Does anyone have any other suggestions as to things I can try? |

| I think she's still teething, or it's some form of stress or separation anxiety. My vet said it could be the latter. When I left Princess home alone w/my other 3, she managed to chew the wall & make a hole! She was 7 months old then, already spayed & had retaining baby teeth removed. I had to connect 2 ex-pens together, make a huge space for them, away from the walls, to stay in while nobody was home. She eventually grew out of it. I also gave them lots of chews, like himalayan chews, antlers, bully sticks when I was home so I can supervise. Now that they're much older, they don't need any chews.

| Clear deodorant is a new one for me. I can try that. The only problem with spraying her is it is RARE that I catch her doing it. she seems to know she will get in trouble for it an doesn't usually do it in front of me. I just see the after effects. doesn't do any good to spray her unless you actually catch her in the act. Last edited by R-Teddy; 09-11-2014 at 10:20 AM. |

| Our 8 mo. old also chews even though she is done teething. We've tried the Bitter Apple, but she just moves on to a new spot on the walls or baseboard. She also likes the edges of throw rugs, and tags on anything. We pen her while we're gone, but she is sneaky, as pointed out about Yorkies! Hope she outgrows this soon! Ya gotta love em, tho!

| This sounds EXACTLY like my Chase when he was younger! He had 2 spots in the bedroom, and 1 by the bathroom door where he was chewing the walls! I tried the bitter spray, but that didn't help. It was only when we were busy (eating dinner, showering, making dinner, etc) that he would do it, and he didn't do it in front of us. What helped was giving him a frozen Kong or bully stick while we were eating, not shutting the bathroom door when I was in there, and he stopped completely when we brought Calvin home (he was 13 months old then). His brother kept him busy enough not to get bored, and thankfully Calvin never tried to chew the walls |
