HELP with chewing on walls So there is only one habit my little athena has that is a real problem. She likes to chew on walls. Its mainly in one place, but not always. the one place she mainly does it on is a place where the wall had been repaired. Someone told me some pups like the taste of plaster that you use to repair walls, so I thought that was what it was, but still didnt know how to stop her. Then she started chewing on the wall in other places, mostly the wood trim around our arche ways and door ways. I just repainted an aches way yesterday and BOOM shes sat there and did it right on front of me again. maybe its the taste of new paint? I dont know.
At first I thought it was separation anxiety. Although she never did it when I actually LEFT my property, she would do it when I was in the shower or out in my yard working where she couldnt go, so I was there, but she couldnt get to me. But for example just now. she was literately sitting right underneath me chewing on the wall. So thats not separation anxiety. Shes 8 months old, and as far as I can tell done teething ( I guess I could be wrong about that)
One person told me to crate her. well in order to keep her from chewing on the wall Id have to keep her crated 24/7, never know when shes going to do it. sorry but im not going to do that. thats no life for her to be caged up 24/7 an I dont believe in doing that. I mean whats the sense of having a dog if your going to keep them crated ALL THE TIME. I believe in doing it only for safety reasons and if safety reason consist of you keeping them caged 24/7, then you shouldn't have the dog. JMO
I have tried the bitter apple NO CHEW spray and vinegar. neither one is working.
Does anyone have any other suggestions as to things I can try? |
