| My bad experience with a "breader" We just bought a yorkie girl. We went to visit her when she was just 2 weeks old. She was so tiny we were afraid to hold her. We left a 200 deposit. The breader told us she was going to be ready February 14 , we were so excited to bring her home but 3 day before "the date" she called and said it had to be until the 17 we said ok a few dat more for her to be with mama. The day came and we went to get her, we where so happy we paid and we got her and a file with "documents" we got home and I openen the documents folder I wanted to know the exact day she was born because I just called the vet to make the appointments... to my surprise there was not a health certificate. .. I callef her and she said they do not need one because her parents are healthy and is refusing to give me one. I have been reading a lot about yorkies and bought a good puppy food I asked her for the kind of food she was eating or still just milk from mom, she said they are eating only cesars wet food, I asked her how mych she was feeding them and she told me they will poo r food on a big plate and they will eat anytime and how much as they wanted... my baby is going to be 8 weeks this friday and weighs 3.9 pounds and she told me the mama and papa are 6 pounds... also when I asked her why only wet food she said her teeth are to small and they will brake, asked about shower and they said no until next week, my baby was not eating well and call her and she told me to give her milk. Asked her about trimming her nails and she said not to fo it because is too young. I took my baby to the vet and he said she is full of it. She did good at the vet but still worry about the weigh since she was use to eating anytime wet food... why I am doing now is shop a little her puppy food with boiled chicken and little of cesar wet food. She eats all but the dry food. Any advice? Should I report this person? |

| She sold a puppy before she was eight weeks old, which is against the law. It looks like they need to be evaluated by a vet. Florida has good puppy lemon laws. I would read them. I hope your pup is healthy. Now might be a good time to look into health insurance. Your life is going to be so much brighter sharing it with a Yorkie. I have only one now, but Ihave had Yorkies in my life for over thirty years. I wish you health, happiness, love, and laughter with your new baby. Get some Nutrical or Karo syrup to have on hand in case you are seeing symptoms of hypoglycemia. Welcome to YT. Any questions you have can be answered by our wonderful, compassionate community. I am very happy to help you. "It is the consumer's right to receive a certificate of veterinary inspection with each dog or cat purchased from a pet dealer. Such certificate shall list all vaccines and deworming medications administered to the animal and shall state that the animal has been examined by a Florida-licensed veterinarian who certifies that, to the best of the veterinarian's knowledge, the animal was found to have been healthy at the time of the veterinary examination." | Lisaly, thanks a lot for your advice. WE are so hapoy to have a yorkie has one more member of our family. We love her... but is very difficult for her because of how she was raised, eating all day long is no no good for any dog. I called the breader and she told me they do nit need a health certificate because they were healthy. I am trying to feed her 3 times a day but I am doing it 4 times small portions. I will report this lady for sure. Thanks a lot. |

| If your pup is only 8 weeks old you should let it free feed at least for a while, although that is big for 8 weeks. Just feed a very healthy kibble maybe moistened at first a bit, like royal canine yorkie puppy formula or wellness. I would keep food and water out at all times for the pup right now. My Gizmo almost died because someone was starving him to make him small, and when I rescued him at nine weeks old, he was in a hypoglycemic coma. These pups can crash fast, and with one so young it could go hypoglycemic very fast. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | At 3,9 lbs feeding 3x per say should be sufficient. With respect to the teeth and kibble. just ask your vet is there any reason why you can't introduce kibble into her diet. Caesars' wet is not the best food to use on a long term basis. To get them to eat the kibble you can grind up the kibble a little coarser and mix it in with the wet, eventually using less and less of the wet food. Some folks like to do free feeding and others not. I am of the set time food schedule. I like to know exactly how much each dog of mine eats. As young baby puppies yes you usually use large feeding plate to let all puppies start to eat first a gruel like substance then onto more formed kibble. But your breeder should have given you some guidelines on number of ounces to feed your puppy at each feeding or per day. And do seriously consider pet insurance that covers genetic defects. Your puppy is young and it is a perfect time to insure them. There are many good threads here on pet insurance, as well as many heartbreaking threads of sick dogs that have owners with no funds to pay for health conditions and no insurance to help defray medical expenses. The science of veterinary medicine has improved immensely over the years..how-ever surgical costs are high, and some conditions require expensive testing to diagnose correctly. I wish you many happy and healthy years with your Yorkie.
