| My dogs love carrots, chicken, and ham. As long as it doesn't have any seasoning or spice. I know some dogs are more sensitive than others to certain foods. I would test the waters and make sure they don't throw up and poop soft. I have 2 teapot yorkies that have stomach of bricks.

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk. I agree, make sure none of the food has seasonings or spices. Some are toxic for dogs, and some will lead to serious illness. Personally, I would skip the steak for this reason and others. Some people give a little to their Yorkies, but I would not risk it. Review the list of foods that are toxic to dogs. Keep in mind your dog's size. Little dogs don't need much to be happy. Some of the things my boys love: sweet potato, steamed plain chicken breast, Greek yogurt, baby sweet peas, green beans, cottage cheese, parmesan cheese.

| Be aware that some dogs won't eat their own food (especially kibbles) once they get a taste of table food. My niece's dog get bit of canned food mixed in with her kibbles when she visits since that's what I provide my two. Once she goes back home, she gives her mama a hard time with eating for couple days b/c she wants wet food mixed in. ps. If you're thinking about giving your pup human food, please be sure to read up on what human food can be toxic. Chocolate, onion, garlic, are well known but there are quite a few others that aren't as known. Last edited by Magnus; 02-03-2014 at 11:10 AM. |

| There is safe stuff dogs can have but there is also a lot of toxic stuff and things that are bad for them. Yorkies are prone to pancreatitis so you should not feed fatty foods like ham. Here is a small list from the ASPCA but there are long more detailed lists out there People Foods to Avoid Feeding Your Pets | ASPCA

| I did some research on foods that are safe for puppies and everything that Maximo mentioned was on that list. I'll admit I spoil my puppy with people food but I always make sure that it is in his food bowl and I mix it with a little bit of kibble. We NEVER feed him from our plates. He's still a puppy so we put him in his crate when we're eating. I have given him bananas, apples, yogurt, brown rice, boiled chicken, peanut butter, green beans, and even scrambled eggs. No seasoning what so ever. Make sure everything is plain. I know cheese is supposed to be okay but it stops my little guy up so we don't do that anymore. I also give him cheerios as treats when he goes potty in the correct spot. He loves cheerios more than any of the treats we have purchased at the pet store. They are also cheaper and go a long way lol. |

| I just have to ask... What do most of you consider "human food?" This is a bit confusing to me. In a thread about what's a good dog food, do we not look for great kibble/canned food made with real ingredients instead of dyes, extra fat, and added chemicals? Human grade food is what I've heard it be called because for the most part, we wouldn't choose to eat fake potatoes when we can have the real stuff. Unless we have a hankering for fast food, and hit the drive through. What I consider "human food" is food that I would put on my plate which is seasoned, and usually covered in other non doggy friendly foods like onions, or chocolate. That, I obviously wouldn't feed. I would however offer Kaji FRESH FRUITS, VEGGIES, AND REAL MEAT on occasion. He loves those. I make sure his kibble is made of the fresh stuff too. Except for baked or dehydrated to keep for longer. On the occasion, like his birthday, Kaji will have a veggie omelette for breakfast (no butter, oils, or seasonings) with a teenie, tiny amount of cheese sprinkled on, and a chicken salad for dinner made with chicken I specifically boil for him. (Again no fats, oils, or seasonings) For the occasional treat I do fresh fruits and veggies, dehydrated chicken breast too like Stella and Chewy's. But I wouldn't call what I feed him "human food" for several reasons. (ie lack of seasoning)

Yorkie Yakker | Fatty food in excess can cause weight problems and pancreatitis, so in a small, small moderation, cheese and bread is great for them. Also, I recommend chicken breast even for Yorkies who've had pancreatitis, because it's filling and gentle on the stomach. In order: 1. chicken breast in moderation 2. bread in a more sparing moderation 3. cheese on a rare occasion 4. so very rare: scrambled eggs. Which reminds me, it's time for their biyearly scrambled eggs.

| Amy will get a half of a baby carrot and a small piece of lettuce. Also a bit of apple but so far that is all she has ever gotten. |
