| Difference between a Tri-Colored (Parti) and a Biewer We have 2 Tri-Colored AKC Registered Yorkies. 1 Male and 1 Female... I keep getting people coming up to me and saying the our Beiwer Yorkies are so cute. I understand the Biewer Yorkies are not AKC recognized so what's the difference? I have posted a picture of all 4... From L to R we have Prada (5 mos), Gucci (2), Louis Vuitton (1) and on my should is Coco Chanel (3)... Louis & Prada are brother and sister. Coco & Gucci are sisters. |

| From what I have read there is some controversy about the subject. Maybe the breeder section could help you. |

| From what I understand Biewers were bred in Germany , Mr. Biewer got the tri color to show up and with selective breeding made a pattern of color placement. His goal was to make a separate breed. I spoke with some of the members from BTRA , the claim that they now have evidence showing genetic markers separating a yorkie from a biewer similar to the difference of a yorkie from a Maltese. ( that's where the controversy is) So the rule is, you breed biewer to biewer only. There is a very specific color placement in their standard. Parti yorkies are A k c because they are a tricolor yorkie. There are no color placement standards. They are bred with other yorkies. I mean I can see both sides here. Biewers are descendants from yorkies! So why does there need to be a difference. But dont forget that yorkies were not created spontaneously. Yorkies were developed in England by breeding multiple breeds together. That's why there is such a variety that pops out from the standard. My opinion is that mr Biewer tapped into a genetic sequence that he then genetically engineered from selective breeding. He got a dog that displayed different physical and social characteristics. That's not a surprise really, and then got it registered in Germany ( since he is German ). New breed or yorkie i really dont care! I think both types are amazing! If you want a personality similar to a yorkie, go for a parti. If you want a personality of a Biewer go for that. My breeder has breed and showed yorkies for 10+ years and switched over to biewers for the last 10+ years. She has both still and says there is a very big difference in their personalities. |

| I have a Parti Yorkie and I too have wondered about the difference. I see pictures of dogs that say they are Biewers but they look exactly like my Parti. ??? I love my parti girl!!

| I would recommend doing a search on the subject, this has already has some lengthy and heated debates about it.

Not super sure but I think a standard biewer should have three colors on their face, from your photo she seemed gold and white only? That's really the only reason I went after the biewer originally because I really liked the color pattern. However Biewer or parti... If I see them I'm snuggling them Last edited by BabyBasil; 01-29-2014 at 04:27 PM.

Biewers have diverged enough from Yorkies genetically that they can be distinguished from Yorkies by genetic testing. Here is a link to a thread about the differences between Biewers and Parti-colored Yorkies: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...vs-biewer.html
