From what I understand Biewers were bred in Germany , Mr. Biewer got the tri color to show up and with selective breeding made a pattern of color placement. His goal was to make a separate breed. I spoke with some of the members from BTRA , the claim that they now have evidence showing genetic markers separating a yorkie from a biewer similar to the difference of a yorkie from a Maltese. ( that's where the controversy is) So the rule is, you breed biewer to biewer only. There is a very specific color placement in their standard.

Parti yorkies are A k c because they are a tricolor yorkie. There are no color placement standards. They are bred with other yorkies.

I mean I can see both sides here. Biewers are descendants from yorkies! So why does there need to be a difference. But dont forget that yorkies were not created spontaneously. Yorkies were developed in England by breeding multiple breeds together. That's why there is such a variety that pops out from the standard. My opinion is that mr Biewer tapped into a genetic sequence that he then genetically engineered from selective breeding. He got a dog that displayed different physical and social characteristics. That's not a surprise really, and then got it registered in Germany ( since he is German ).

New breed or yorkie i really dont care! I think both types are amazing! If you want a personality similar to a yorkie, go for a parti. If you want a personality of a Biewer go for that. My breeder has breed and showed yorkies for 10+ years and switched over to biewers for the last 10+ years. She has both still and says there is a very big difference in their personalities.
