| You need to clean them with a ear cleaner that has a drying agent in them like epi-otic

| My three pups at the Rainbow Bridge swam every day. I never had to worry about the ears getting wet. I've used a powder to dry the ears after bathing, but I never did when they swam.

| I've never had an issue with water in the ears when swimming, as ZoE swims with her head out of the water. I just towel dry her when she's done. Here's a pic of ZoE swimming earlier today.

| Thanks everyone. I hadn`t realized until you said it that Trinket keeps her head up too. Crazy new mommy. Just don`t want her to be sick. |

| I don't do anything, and Jackson swims a lot. Never had an issue. He rarely gets his head under.

| I live near the coast and every dog I've had has been a keen swimmer in our local river and at the beach and I hope my yorkie pup will be unafraid of water too.....which has made a question pop into my head... How do you dry your Yorkie's coats off when they've been in water? Do you let them just dry off naturally and them comb through to make sure there's no tangles or do you gently run a comb through after a quick towel-dry but whilst the coat is still damp? |

What people do probably varies depending on the length of the coat. If you dog is kept short, it's a lot easier. ZoE's hair is long (she's had a bit of a summer cut, so it's 3-4 inches off the ground), but she's a mess when she comes out of the water, and looks part poodle, as the end of her hair curl a little. I just let her air dry and rub a little conditioner that's been diluted with water, into her coat as she's drying. I then comb her through at night before bed. ZoE pretty much goes in the water on the weekend & Sunday evening is bath time, so it works for us.

| Thanks for the info I plan to keep my girl's coat short as I like to take my dogs out for 'proper' walks in the countryside and, with our great British climate, that tends to involve water and mud somewhere along the line Once I get Puppy I'm sure I'll have a million and one other questions too Books about Yorkies are great but cannot beat first-hand experience from members on forums like this |
