Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | What Is Your City's Law Regarding Dogs/Animals Locked in Hot Cars? After reading this thread, I realized we hadn't yet had a reminder thread this summer about leaving animals in hot cars. Do you know your city's law / policy regarding this issue? If not, call your local police non-emergency number and find out if they are responders for this issue. For example, here in Phoenix (and in all AZ, I believe) if you see an animal in a car on a hot day, you can just call 911 and they will send the police to where you are to help with the situation. I've done it about 7 times here, and every time they show up within about 3 minutes. So, find out ahead of time because you don't want to be in a situation where an animal's life is in danger, but you don't know who to call for help.

| Great reminder. We really should all be up to date on all animal laws and codes in our living community. I will look into this on Monday. Thanks, Ann!

| Our little town (not quite so little any longer) is the same, call 911 and the police will come out. However, if I ever see a pup in distress in a hot car, I'm busting the window out!

| I called dispatch and they said to just call them and they will send someone out. She didn't seem to know what the actual law was, but sounds like they will come if you let them know.

| Our county doesn't have any specific laws besides what is already in place with the state. Michigan State has put together a table of known state laws of pets in cars: Table of State Laws for Animals in Parked Cars

Isn't it amazing just how many states have no policy whatsoever??!!!

| I'm amazed at how minimal the fine is for such a crime. Shows how little the law values animals. Sad.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | It sickens me....a $25 fine for basically leaving an animal to die in the heat...bc that's what it really is. $25 for killing an animal.

| Here in Georgia there was a woman who put water in a car through the sunroof to dogs that had been in the car on a really hot day for over an hour. The woman was an employee at target, and the owner complained to the store and the woman was fired... :/

YT 1000 Club Member | Well, I couldn't find anything specific in my location, but will at least offer this link for general Animal Regulations for Harris County Texas. HCPHES VPH Animal Regulations PS: I have a Suburban (sunroof, 4 door windows and back glass) and with everything open, it's still WAY to hot to leave a Dog in my Vehicle.
