| A few questions... ok, so its been a little over a week since i brought Sirius home. he is doing wonderfully- hes had about 2 accidents [which were of course my fault for turning my back for a fraction of a second], his ears have been standing since he came home giving him an uncanny to a bunny rabbit when he runs around my room before bed, he learned to sit within 5 minutes. i am sooo thankful for such a great baby! so enough bragging and onto why im posting this thread- ive introduced him to people, all different kinds like my yorkies for dummies suggested, hes played with children [who are very gentle and aware], hes even played with a german shepard. but he is still so painfully shy! even with me at times. ill call him and he will back up like im going to beat him! i WOULD never EVER hit him or anything of the sort, but he backs up like he is frightened. over the weekend i took him to my sisters house and while it was kinda hectic, he was very loving with the kids, licking them and even going up to a few of them on his own and i was so proud, so id praise him whenever he was being good. but he continues to do the backing up thing. secondly, i want to give him a bath, lol. im suppppper nervous about the whole process- he is my first dog so im not really sure how im supposed to go about it. im absolutely clueless - like water temp? shampoo? how do i wash around his face? what setting should i put the blow dryer on? or should i just take him to the groomer? [im scared to let him go to the groomer until hes had his final round of shots- im just scared he might get something from another dog] i just want to make the whole thing as pleasurable for him as posible so he'll like baths in the future and not be traumatized by me! lol thirdly, training him was AWESOME- the only thing that wsnt so great was after our session, i gave him about 2 treats total [they were big to start off with so i broke them off into small peices] but he had the worst poops! i tried to give him cheerios, but he is pretty uninterested in them other than playing with them and chasing them, which only contributes to his puppy ADD. is there a treat you guys use for training that is easy on their stomachs that they respond well to? Lastly, he was a little pervert with his chihuahua cousin when she came to visit this weekend! he was humping her and biting her back like a maniac. i thought he had rabies or something! he was being crazy- running around like a mad man. kristy says he was asserting his dominance, but i was just so blown away by his behavior, i had to share it :] thanks to everyone who reads this uber long post and actually replies!

| Ok First: He is just a puppy, give him time, Mine still does that, and we don't hit him. Second:You can give him a bath, but make sure the house is warm? Do you have a heating pad and a lot of warm towels?? Its cold where you are so I would make sure you can keep him warm without giving him a chill. (remember that dogs normal temperture is 101, 3 degrees higher than ours) Third: Try different treats, or just give him tiny little bits, it doesn't take a lot to praise them. Fourth: He isn't a prevert, he is a dog and your cousin is probably right. Enjoy your new puppy! Don't sweat the little things!

| How old is Sirius? (Is that pronounced like "serious"?) |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Sounds pretty normal. As for treats I use little pieces of the Salerno butter cookie mini's she loves them and they don't bother her tummy. I know there not the best thing but they work and she only gets them for training sessions. As far as bathing, i have had 3 other Yorkies in the past and I have a older pom who all went to my groomers. I am to nervous about taking her to the groomers although I did take her once, because she is so small. So I decided to do it myself. CAli does better than I thought she tolerates the bathe and I put a bunch of towels right out of the drier and let her roll in them for 5 minutes and she is pretty much dry, then I finish her off with th blow dryer which she loves, probably the warmth of it. I use a washcloth around her face so as to not get alot of water in her eyes and ears. I was surprised how well she turns out. I use the CC shampoo system. I'm sure more experienced people can give you better advice this is just my experience. Good Luck

| I have a Bichon - they are supposed to be one of the friendliest, most outgoing little guys in the world. Not mine - he's shy. He is very friendly and playful with me, my friends, and family (because he knows them)....but he would never go up to a stranger. Actually - his being a little shy has given me one of the best behaved little dogs I have every had. He is also very gentle and kind - and plays his heart out with my new little Yorkie..who is much smaller. Nothing wrong with a gentle, kind, shy dog!!! Carol Jean |
