| Alacrima; Parotid Duct Transposition I am posting this for a friend who has two yorkies about the same age of mine. Her little female who will be 1 yr old, next month has a condition called Alacrima. It's a type of eye infection that if is not treated, she will loose her eye sight. Her vet has given her the options of, having the parotid duct transposition surgery(involves redirecting the salva gland to her eyes to keep them moist), or removing the eyeballs totally,. This is the only way to get rid of the pain and infections she has in the eyes. He also told her this is caused by genetics. Has anyone heard of or dealt with this situation before? I told her this was the best place to get information on our yorkies, and everyone always has wonderful and very useful advise. Thanks for any information you can give us.

| I am sorry for your friend and her dog that they are facing this. A member here, she is not very active anymore because she has a baby, but her girl had the surgery done successfully. Here is one of her threads: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ns-anyone.html You can go to her profile and look up more of her threads, and maybe try to private message her. Best wishes to your friend and her dog.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I so sorry to hear about your friend's dog. While you didn;t mention if a specialist was involved, Ohio State University has a very fine teaching animal hospital and would be where I would be going for second opinions!
