Default Alacrima; Parotid Duct Transposition

I am posting this for a friend who has two yorkies about the same age of mine.

Her little female who will be 1 yr old, next month has a condition called Alacrima. It's a type of eye infection that if is not treated, she will loose her eye sight. Her vet has given her the options of, having the parotid duct transposition surgery(involves redirecting the salva gland to her eyes to keep them moist), or removing the eyeballs totally,. This is the only way to get rid of the pain and infections she has in the eyes. He also told her this is caused by genetics. Has anyone heard of or dealt with this situation before? I told her this was the best place to get information on our yorkies, and everyone always has wonderful and very useful advise.

Thanks for any information you can give us.
