Green eyes in picture... I read that if you have a yorkie who's eyes are green in pictures from the flash, that they have the correct type of silky coat. Has anyone else ever heard that? I do see some pictures posted on here with yorkies with green eyes. I am asking this because most of the puppy pictures I see have blue eyes from the flash, including my puppy. Just curious... Jodi

I don;t think it has anything to do with the coat...cuz if you think about it, it is just the reflaction of light, so it would depend on the camera and also on the lighting and flash.

I am new to having a yorkie and I keep seeing people mention kinds of coats. Are there specific kinds of coats and how can you tell what kind your pup has? Karen

color You can determine coat type by the eye flash..but not in young pups as a rule..somewhere are around 5 or 6 months I see the color change. Shades of green, pale yellows denote a slik type coat..warm colors like red, amber and orangish yellows mean softer, cotton or wool. It is true, I swear.

Buddy has a long silky coat and his eyes have reflected green. Jake has a cotton coat and his eyes have reflected red. This is interesting if this actually true.... I am not an expert in photography, but it can be avoided.

| This is very interesting. I guess I am going to have to go back through pic's and see what Schatzie's eyes look like. Her coat is ???

Pat is correct. An example. THe female I have pictured is a silky, a beautiful silky mature coat. She is pictured with her puppies. She has floppy ears but her coat is one of the best. It grows fast, has no wooly to it, and is like human hair. Her eyes shine green in the picture. I have also included another example of bright yellow eyes, this female has a very thick, coat although she has many good attributes her coat can be unruly if not kept short. But the coat has alot of sheen to it. You Rock Pat! But sometimes it does depend on lighting. http://www.andersonyorkies.com/yorki...rspuppies.html

I have to agree with Pat. Maddie has silky hair and her eyes are green in pic's and Rudy has the cotton hair and his eyes are redish in pic's. If I had a choice of coats I would take the silky, not because it is the standard but it is a whole lot easier to take care of. Rudy's hair is really pretty but hard to take care of............Cindy

I wouldn;t be so sure....my cuz's bf has a yorkie and he has a very coarse coat, not fine and silky at all, and his eyes are always green in the pictures...unless he is an exception to the rule, i just know for a fact he doesn;t have the right coat.

| As I recall, this topic was covered (somewhere) a few months ago. I have pictures of Lexi with blue, yellow & green eyes. I also have one that I'll post where I enlarged it so you can see that she has one green eye and one blue eye. Any guesses as to what type of coat she'll have? She's only eight months and we're growing out our puppy fur.

Maybe Lexi is a hybrid...hehehehe a little bit of everything??? I am still skeptical about this, maybe MOST of the times it is correct, but i doubt it is right every time as i have seen with own experience...

color A much better way is not in a photo, but a dark room. I used to go in my kennel in MD..turn out the lights and use a flashlight. Shine it in the dogs direction, much like an animal caught in the headlights of a car! LOL You can see the true color flashing. I had a show potential male puzzled most who saw him...I knew he was a bit soft, but others said, no it was silk. His eye flash was a light gold, warm color...he finished his title..it was a tricky color..a bit more of a green tint and it would have been so much better texture. I was careful to only beed him to very silk girls. A coarse coat can still be cool..and flash green..infact coarse hair is not cotton or wooly at all.

The coat of my the yorkie i am talkin about is so much thicker than Mojos, i think it is thicker than my own hair. It also feel very dry...it is not that smooth..kinda feels like a schnauzer's coat. Also, what about just a white spot? hahaha...i was looking at Mojo's pix but all i see sometimes is a white reflection...hahahahah
