Need Help With My Yorkie and Wee Wee Pad Our Brody is trained to go on the wee wee pad, we believe he knows right from wrong, but he continuously is pooing in the middle of the apartment or around the pad and not in his area. He often does the No. 1 on his pad and in the correct place, but poos wherever he likes. He is 4 years old and has been doing this for years now, but we're getting very upset with this. Any suggestions on how we can re-train him? What went wrong the first time? What we can do? He is often doing the poo when 1) we're not home and 2) at night Please help with anything here

Zachary's Mom Donating Member | I have an almost 1 year old Japanese Chin, Sir Yumble. He was peepee pad trained but then started going anywhere he wanted to. We took him to the vet who said he was OK physically but was probably doing it because of a "behavioural problem". Chins are NOT Yorkies. They are very laid back, easily hurt feelings. Personality and temperament is really the exact opposite of a Yorkie. I read that sometimes a dog will not go potty in front of people if they have been scolded about it. We have been working on this for a couple of months now. We started by telling him to "potty on paper". We got a new puppy, Zachary our Yorkie and have been working on training him. To make a long story short, when Sir Yumble WOULD potty on pads, we would praise him lots and lots. He would run and hide. THEN, when he would occasionally go where he was supposed to go, I would IMMEDIATELY give him a dog treat and praise him both. It seems to be working after a couple months of frustration. If you have not had your dog checked for physical problems, please do so. Try the treat thing, reward him when he does what he is supposed to do. Hope this helps, Louise |

Many years ago I had a yorkie trained to go in the litter box. Sometimes he'd get in there, other times he'd go next to the box. He'd also go on wee pads. Thing is, when he'd go on the pad, sometimes just his front paws would be touching the pad. That would account for poops/peeps being discovered next to the pad or box. Maybe that's what's happening?? I recently purchased a Pet Loo for Lucy. It's a raised up box with fake grass on it. Since we're training to outside only, it's an extra aid in the event of foul weather. Lucy seems to only like to sleep on the loo however. She's not using it to potty at all. Maybe you can try to re-train your pup to use the loo. Your yorkie would have to jump onto it to do his business. He wouldn't be able to just touch the edge and go. Also, how about working with a trainer??? Good luck! Tracey

Join the club. Brandi will pee on her potty pad and poo around it. Almost never on it. I would love to know how to fix this. It really doesn't bother me much because I just pick it up and flush it down the toilet. I have hardwood floors so I just wipe the floor down. After 6 yrs I have never been able to get her to poo on her potty pad consistenly. If she does do it.....you can bet it was by accident. I just so happy that at least she pees on the pad which would be much worse for my floors.

My Gracie never misses when she pees. It's always on the pad, however, she is very concerned about stepping in the pee. She will start out pooing on the pad and many times it makes it on there but if she has trouble getting it out right away she may move around a little and it ends up over the edge or near by. I really don't get upset about it. She tried to do it right but sometimes it just doesn't work out where we want it.
