| Bad, bad reaction I bought some Hartz Duck Chews and both Scooter and Bitsy became very ill. Bitsy especially threw up for several hours. I will never, ever buy any more packaged treats for my babies. I contacted the company and they just said all of their products are compliant with FDA regulations. Thanks a lot for nothing. Please be very careful with all kinds of treats.

| I'm not trying to start a riot here, most of you already know how I feel about bull's penis' for chewing So many people are careful to a fault at making sure their pups have the best of everything. Why are bullie sticks so wonderful? I did a search on line and found that bully sticks have also been recalled in the past. At this point wouldn't a good chew toy rubbed down with peanutbutter or a kong stuffed with it be a better choice? A friend of mine makes some homemade hard as rock bones in the oven, and some hard as rock sweet potatoes, wouldn't these be better alternatives? I'm genuinely asking this question to better educate myself on these ol Bully Sticks!

My furkids Donating Member | was just a suggestion as I know many people on here use them...they aren't supposed to break apart...just get very stringy...and as for them being recalled...If we stopped using everything that has a recall we would all be home cooking...

| Aren't these made in China???...I hope your pups are going to be alright. These products are causing a lot of heartache for pet owners.

| I know everything that's in the treats I give my girls. Everything. Their food I can't control so much since I don't home cool for them (yet) but I do feed Royal Canin. Carrots. That's what I give my girls to chew on. Plain old raw carrots. Well...not old but plain. Besides that, I have a food dehydrator. If you really want to give your pup a treat, buy a steak, slice it into think strips and dehydrate it for them. Store the extra in an airtight container in the fridge.

Yep I buy a bag of organic baby carrots every week! They scarf them like they were top end steaks! I've been thinking about the dehydrator for awhile for myself now I'm off to amazon to get one for my pups!!! Thanks for the suggestion!

I bought a really GOOD dehydrator....I invested in an Excaliber.....I do all my jerky and dried treats for my dogs. I balanced the cost of doing this, versus the cost of treating and still possibly loosing any of my babies, while trying to give them something fun to snack on. I do give them bully sticks, under supervision, because they seem to last so long....I will admit, they dont get them as often as before. I also like thoise Red Barn white femur bones....those things are hard as a rock and they have knawed on those bones for over a year and they are not able to chew them down or break them apart. But I DO NOT BUY ANY "DOGGIE" TREATS that are not for humans...I give pieces of graham crackers, vanilla wafers, and animal crackers. I give Goldfish crackers, Teddy Grahams, Honey Nut Cheerios, green beans, pieces of both cooked and raw carrots, green peas. I try to be soooo careful about what goes into these dogs, and I can not be worried about "who" made the treat, "where" did it come from, etc. There is not another person or company or corporation in existance that is as concerned about my dogs, as I am...so I give only "treats" that I would give anyone in my family. If you really stop to think about it, we give dogs "treats" because WE like the idea of treats and snacks....our dogs could care less if they ever get a "treat"!!! | Back on the topic of Hartz....when I was a teenager back in the 60's, Hartz flea shampoo made several of my dogs so sick....then my brother put a Hartz flea collar on his beagle, and he got REALLY sick with seizures and twitching, etc...took almost a year before he was ever back to normal....I swore off Hartz products then. And I just remembered...there was a flea killer/repellent that came in a black can...may have been another Hartz product,...they finally did pull that product off the market, as it actually killed some pets.....I can see that apparently nothing has changed with Hartz..... |

| my dogs love a lamb chop also given under supervision and if I'm having steak and eggs on a weekend they get some raw steak chopped up and some dry scrambled eggs, gone in about 30 seconds. I give my dogs Canadian made, locally in my area, treats, Crumps from Caledon Ontario baked treats (liver beef chicken sweet potato) and N/A nothing added (similar products but they have lamb lung). I also roast up chicken and the dogs get that as a treat. I can get my wee puppy to do just about anything if I say "chicken" it's hilarious. He goes from completely not listening, to what was that you were saying let me get right to it. |
