| Will Not Eat My 5 month old yorkie, Abby, did not eat yesterday. Some days she just picks at her food and other days gobbles it down. ( which is very seldom lately) I do not feed her any table food. She is eating Wellness Supreme and I put a little Beauty Coat oil over it and a little water and heat in microwave for about 12 seconds. Should i change to can or try something else. She is acting just fine, still pees and her activity has not changed. She weighs app 3#. Any suggestions ????? |

| Hello, are you giving a lot of treats? I know it doesn't take much to fill their little tummies..why not try counting out just a few kibble for her dish and then checking to see if any are gone...maybe others can check in and help. Good luck. Just wanted to add that my Peke, Yoshi would just pick but it was enough and he is very healthy..now Prissy, my Yorkie isn't picky at all.

| I always think of toddlers when puppys hit 5-6 months they stop growing quite so fast and they start teething. Good to measure the food being put in the dish and being left behind and writing it down for a few weeks. Keep an eye on what is coming out too, poop is a good indicator if enough has been eaten. My DD crushed Abby's kibble for a few weeks when her teeth were falling out. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | One of the advantages of kibble over other food, it they tend to only eat enough to satisfy the caloric needs. It's not so tasty that they will over indulge. This is a good thing, and most dogs would eat themselves to death if allowed. She may also be fussier because she's no longer have a growth spurt, and the amount of food you feed daily is excessive. The oil you are added on top adds many calories too, so that would lessen her appetite for her kibble. How much food are you feeding daily? I personally don’t think you should do a food change every time they get fussy or you teach them to be fussy. The other thing I should mention is they do lose the their appetite when they are in pain, and loss of appetite was the only symptom Joey had when he had an eye ulcer, so you want to make sure she’s feeling okay, otherwise. If she’s won’t eat anything in 24 hours, I’d take her to the vet, but make sure family members aren’t giving her snacks. What type of beauty coat oil are you using, I think I'd be afraid to add much oil to a Yorkies food, they are prone to pancreatitis.
