| Satellite Ear? Okay, so I just got home a few hours ago and greeted my 11 week old Yorkie. Strangely enough I played with him a quite a bit and hadn't noticed a difference in his appearance. As soon as I did, I ran to my sister who watches him during the day to ask when did his ear change. Milo has one ear standing up! My sister and mom already nicknamed him Satellite, since apparently when you now call him the one ear sort of rotates. So, now I am all bummed because I either missed this milestone in his puppyhood, or I was just so preoccupied during our morning routine that I did not notice the change. But I am thinking that it is the former, because I don't think I was distracted enough this morning to miss that, like I was this evening. Anyhow my question is, does an ear stand up that fast? I always figured that it would slowly gain structure, his ears were both limp just yesterday! And why only one? He just looks so odd. I sure hope that the second one follows soon. And if you haven't guessed Milo is my first yorkie, growing up we always had rotweilers or cats for family pets. I researched his breed for about a year before I got him, but I guess just like with most things, experience always teaches best.

| Hello and welcome, yes their ears can stand up early, a lot of them do and the other one will usually stand up before long too. Prissy's ears rotate too, isn't it too cute?

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Ahhh....puppy milestones, how sweet♥ lol....I love the satellite nickname. It's not unusual for one ear to stand before the other and yes it can happen in the matter of a day. The other ear will most likely stand on it's own within the next week. If it doesn't then you can try taping it up and after a few days of the tape, the ear will probably stay up.

| Wow, my heart melted at his picture. That is so cute! I might be missing something here, but when we got both our Yorkies at about 12 weeks of age their ears were perking and standing up. The breeder taped them, and there was no harm to either of them. Is this an uncommon practice? I never knew they would stand up on their own. Also, my girl has radar ears, too. They stand up but it is cute when she finds a sound and they rotate like little satellite dishes. |

| Maybe I should be viewing his look as more cute, but I just can't, he looks so awkward, and I can't help but fear the possibility of the ear never standing up. Ear taping did cross my mind, but I know that would not last long. We just started making him wear his harness in the house to get used to it, and he fights that all day. I know already he will be slapping at that ear with his hind leg for hours, and that will make me feel bad, making him uncomfortable for cosmetic purposes. So yeah, I will just have to love him like he is for now. It feels like that moment when you are fully aware that your kid has no front teeth and is all gums....kinda cute, in a funny way.

| Satellite is adorable! It is recommended that the upper one-third tip of the ear be trimmed/shaved in order to take some of the weight off of the ear. This will help the ear to stand. Some peohaver trim/shave the entire ear. Once it stands on its own, you can let the hair grow again. I used blue painters tape on my baby's ears and had to re-do them several times because she kept scratching them. Along with trimming the ear hair and taping, the ears finally stood. The ears will go up and down while they are teething so don't panic. My vet suggested massaging the ear cartilage to stimulate the ear. Hope this helps.

| Kyra's ears have been standing since she was 6 weeks. This picture is at 8 weeks. Hopefully they dont do like Laddy's and go down while she is teething because his had to be taped to get them to stand again. She is 14 weeks so I think we are safe.

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Awww! How cute! I am not sure when Katie Scarlett's ears stood up. The very first picture I have of her from our breeder was taken at 8 weeks and they were up then.
