| Docked tails? Forgive me for the ignorance, but I didn't know Yorkies were "supposed" to have their tails docked...is that correct?? I took my little one to the vet today for the first time (just adopted her on Saturday) and the vet tech was talking to her and said, "aww you aren't supposed to have a tail! You're a Yorkie!" Ha! I think her tail is adorable. I'll be keeping it, thanks! LOL. I wonder if other Yorkie owners think my Phoebe looks weird? My mom and dad have a rescued Yorkie from the shelter that I volunteer at and her tail isn't docked either, but I suspect that their Yorkie may not be full-blooded. I can just see my mom's face if I ever suggested that Fifi get her tail docked. LOL! -J |

| Hi and Welcome to YT! In the US tails are still being docked, In Europe it is now considered inhumane and has been stopped. I think Yorkie's tails are great! There are many on this board with intact tails....

| My female has her full tail She didn't have hers docked because half of her litter didn't make it, so they didn't want to stress the surviving puppies. The full tail shows so much personality, I definitely wouldn't dock!

| I have one now that I adopted last March and she has a full tail. My late Molly also had a beautiful full tail. I myself actually like the full tail, they are so expressive.

| There are a lot of Yorkie owners on YT who have Yorkies that have a full tail. I think they are adorable. If the procedure is not done during the first 3 days of life the tail should be left alone. My girl has a docked tail but I would really love for her to have a full tail. |

| Jackson waves his full tail loud and proud! I love it. I honestly was ignorant at the time I got him and had NO idea Yorkies were supposed to have docked tails. I think I honestly thought dogs with "nubs" were born that way. LOL. But, yeah, I love it.

| Brody is standard colors and has an intact tail and I just love it! Mia's tail was docked too short and it's got a really cute little wiggle with her hair long, but I would have loved to have her tail intact...I think it would have been gorgeous with her golden color. Plus, I also disagree with carving a dog into a shape you want instead of breeding the shape you want into the dog.

| Not all yorkies have there tails docked but it is standard to have a docked tail. Callie doesn't have a full tail but its a little longer then a nubby so I guess it just wasn't done right but I love it

| Actually, I believe if a Yorkie tail is docked, it is supposed to be docked at a 'mid' length...not a nub. Plenty of Yorkies have their tails docked too short...like Mia's, which is basically a nub. The long hair on Mia's nubby tail makes it look better IMHO...and it jiggles so cute when she wags. Brody's full tail waves like a flag in a high wind, and is just so cute, too.

| I cannot believe the vet tech said to your pup that she isn't supposed to have a tail. How rude and silly! Yorkies are born with tails! I like both docked and full tails.

| Bailey has his tail and he wags it proudly. I wouldn't have it any other way. |

| Yep, Zeus also has his tail! At our monthly Yorkie meet-ups, he's the only one out of 18... so we're a rare group, but everyone loves his tail, as does he and I! And Daddy too, of course...
