and Bear too! ♥ Donating Member | Lookig for a gate to fit a 64" wide opening. Does anyone know where I can find an extra wide gate, or even something retractable, to fit a 64" wide opening that does not have slats that a Yorkie can get through? I am having a really hard time finding one. Thanks.

| Oh, wide gates are so difficult to find aren't they? I saw a retractable one 'over here' - but even that wouldn't have been wide enough for you! What it consisted of though, basically, was 2 of those white metal retractable poles (the sort you might have in a closet?). They had taken some nylon meshing and made a wide hem at either end. The poles were then slotted through and placed within the doorway, horizontally. It depends how high your Littlies can jump, as to whether or not you can just step over it, or whether it has to be 'retracted' every time! I'm sorry if this sounds a bit strange and confusing! | I have seen extra wide gates at drsfostersmith.com and a couple other places...maybe Tractor Supply, but it's been a while since I needed them, and I'm not sure how wide they were. I don't know how long you need to leave the gate there, but maybe you could improvise with something like 2 (to 4) shower curtain expansion rods (2 up and 2 down) and something to block between the top rod(s) and the bottom rod(s)? (I think I duct taped an inexpensive shower curtain between 2 expansion rods...?...but you could slide plywood or foam core between them with 4 rods, too.) It might get you going until you can find something better. I have done it in a pinch so carpet could dry, etc. and it didn't hurt the walls.

It can actually be as wide as you want it to be, depending on the length of the poles, as they go across the gap. I'm sure all the others are far better - thought it might be a solution in the meantime! Happy hunting! Sally + Harry x

| I bought two sets of folding wooden gates at a yardsale- really similar to the ones at www.frontgate.com- They are working out so well and look so nice, I think I would have bitten the bullet and paid full price for them. I can now answer the front door without dealing with my crazy wheaten and trying to keep my eye on two escape prone yorkies. Since we have 5 people coming and going it has really safety proofed my front door. |

Just as an example (I know this one isn't wide enough - but it'd be very simple to make, just so you know what I'm on about....!!) it might be worth looking at: www.houseofbath.co.uk/shop/ Item No.: CY708BV Sally + Harry x

| You can also search for human baby gates. You may find the larger options that way. Good luck! |

| How tall does it need to be to keep the labs in?

and Bear too! ♥ Donating Member | What I have up now is about 29" tall. I am currently using a puppy playpen that I got from Petco. I have it unhooked and spread out across the opening. I would love to find something retractable that I can mount or something that adjust to fit the space. Everything I've found so far, isn't wide enough.
