| I'm back! Greetings! I've been away for a while. Kinda sad story with perhaps a happy ending. Don't know if you'll recall that my wife and I rescued a year and a half old yorkie we named Buddy. Apparently Buddy had been a pretty abused dog from his previous owner. He wouldn't allow my wife and I to be together, my wife couldn't go in to the closet to get dressed, we couldn't leave the house, we were captives. He would bark non stop. It got to where all he would do was bark. We went to classes, read books, tried everything. I refused to use a shock collar. We stuck with it for a few months until my wife finally said she just couldn't take it any more. We reluctantly called the rescue lady and gave him back. My wife cried all the way home. Well, we decided to be empty nesters for a while. Ever so often, we'd discuss the chance of getting another one and trying again. Today I was browsing Craigslist and a Yorkie came up. I was the 1st to call. They had no papers, just a cute little 6 month old boy. We drove out to see him and of course, brought him home. Now we are getting used to each other. It's been a while since we've had such a young dog. He's semi house trained, but we'll work around that. Going to take him to the vet next week, get him checked out and make sure he's up to date on everything. Oh and his name is Bailey. Any tips or information would be welcomed. Glad to be back! |

| Congratulations on your new addition. We're just south of you... with the chill in the air we've been waking up to, the girls have been quite spunky after their morning potty break It's been a long while since we've had a puppy too, my girls were 2-1/2 when I brought them home. Hope all goes well during his first night home

| Congradulations on your new baby. So sorry about your other little one. Its a shame the horrible things that people can do to animals. One day they will get theirs back. What goes around, comes around. The sad thing its hard for these babies to forget what has been done to them. Enjoy your new baby and God bless you for trying so hard with your other one. |

| Thanks everyone! It's been a tough time this year dealing with feeling like a failure with Buddy. But as each hour passes with Bailey, we can see such a difference between the two. Bailey is so passive and loving. He actually prefers my wife but will hop on my lap when he wants a little rough housing. Or sometimes he'll hop up and just go right to sleep. He has a favorite toy that's a duck. He'll spend alot of time just chewing or he'll bring it to me and we'll play fetch. He's really good at it too! The 1st night went by fine. He slept with us and it was ok. Saturday morning we decided to take him to our vet. We got some good news and some not so good news. But hopefully nothing that can't be resolved with some time and care. Bailey has the demodectic mange on the top of his head. The doctor assured us it wasn't contagious. He gave us some topical ointment and I've put it on him 2 days now. I've done some reading and it appears he should be fine in a few days to a week. Everything else turned out great. Hi age was detemined to be 7 - 8 months old. He's a good little boy! The previous owner shaved his face, but that too with time will grow back. As for being a full blooded yorkie, the doctor thought so, but didn't know for sure. I'll post some pictures soon. I've written a small novel here, but I wanted to update where we are on Bailey. We're so excited to have this little boy in our lives. |
