| What is sweater weather? With fall coming up and Cody coming home tomorrow, I'm just wondering... how low does the temperature go before you put a sweater on your pup? I know he needs help keeping warm, and little sweaters are *so cute*! But I want to make sure I'm making him comfortable when he needs it and not making him too hot or too cold. What do you all think? |

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Great question! I have a new pup too. We live about an hour and 30 minutes from Baltimore and our weather says it will get down in the 30's at night here this coming weekend. We are going to buy a sweater tomorrow just in case. I try to keep it warm in the house, but I don't want her to get chills. I've been keeping our thermostat set on 62 to 65 degrees.

| Unless Callie is outside in a warm temp she almost always has something on right now shes been wearing tshirts. I would normally say for Callie when it starts getting 55 she needs something a little thicker then a tshirt. If she is cold her little tongue gets cold so sometimes I go by how her tongue feels when she gives me a kiss.

| I think it depends. I live in southern California, where temps never really get too cold. What's cold for me could be alright for you. What I do with my pup is, if I need a sweater, he does too. Or, I'll check his ears. If the inside of his ear is warm, he's fine. If it's cold, he needs something on. I read that somewhere on YT, and it's worked great as a rule of thumb to follow.

| A lot depends on the individual. If I touch them and their bodies feel cool then I put something on them. Yogi would be happy with a t-shirt when it gets in the 40's. Gracie Ruth dosen't want anything on even when walking through snow that is deeper then she is tall! Boo is all boy and doesn't like clothes, but loves to be under a blanket at the first hint of cooler weather. This will be my first winter with Bonnie, but so far she's even more hot blooded then G. So to sum it up, the girls are tough pioneer woman and the boys are wimpy city boys when it comes to temps. Here's G enjoying last year unseasonable snow day. Yogi in his Union Suit trying to keep warm. Poor little guy, he's going to need a new suit this year. His hand me down suit didn't cover his cute little bum.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Joey's breeder told me, "If you need a sweater, he'll need a sweater" and that's a good rule of thumb. Sometimes, with the AC our homes can be too cool for a yorkie even in the summer and Joey tends to love the warmth, so he often wears clothing in the summer as well.

| I too go by the "if you need a sweater, they need a sweater" method poor Gatsby hates to wear clothes but he gets so cold he cries if i don't put something on him

| While I also agree with "if I need a sweater, they probably do too", I check ears too... Bella is warmer so she doesn't need a sweater as early in the season (or as thick a fabric) as Tillie. They're like humans that way... what's cold to me may not seem as cold to you

| Needing a sweater!!!! Well I know my Ruby loves to dress up ..but definitely if its under 60 degrees she always has something on at least a lil shirt ..in the real cold she has sweaters and a down jacket when it snows. In the house I don't put anything on her she's usually comfortable .....they are very sensitive to weather....and of coarse she hates to get wet in the rain or snow lol she's just a peanut |

| what is sweater weather? i live in Ireland; all weather is sweater weather! though luckily we did get 2 weeks of summer this year!!! lol now in saying that, every one of my kids has their own preference as to what they want to wear- and the coldest is always my little bambi, who will go and get whatever she wants put on!!! usually its her red thermals these days! and dexter and missy spend their days in their sleeping bags when there isn't food to be had! so, those are my kids that live with my mum- i live with my gran (in her 80s) with the other kids (furry ones, not 'real' ones- those are horrible!) so we have tropical style heat in here atm! yet toby is Still insisting on a sweater but then again, he has lost nearly a lb of insulation this year!

| If I need a jacket/sweater, so does Levi. That's my basic rule.
