| First Dog Park visit = failure It was such a gorgeous day today, so we decided to take Roxie to the dog park for the first time. We thought she would love the opportunity to run and play off-leash, and maybe meet some other dogs. Wrong! The ground was all wood chips and twigs and Roxie hated it. She tip-toed around for a bit, and then settled under the bench we were sitting on. DBF threw her ball, but she didn't even want to run after it. We wound up leaving after just 15 minutes. Oh well, I guess the dog park just isn't for us. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ On a completely unrelated note, I was looking for some cute and kitschy salt & pepper shakers for my new kitchen table. I found some adorable Yorkie shakers on Amazon. Of course I ordered them right away!

| Oh Roxie looks so adorable too bad she did not have more fun. I love the salt and pepper shakers! I have seen other breeds but never Yorkies.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Aww, too bad. Were there any other little dogs there to play with? I'd give her another try. Maybe she was just having a bad day, and she'll get used to the wood chips if you can distract her. The ball was a good idea. I always bring treats too to make the experience as rewarding as possible.

| No, there weren't any other dogs there. She may have had a better time if there were. I thought we had treats in her bag, but we must have used them all up.

| Levi loves the dog park, but if there aren't other dogs there, or if I am not running around like a fool to entertain him, he prefers to just sniff around on his own. For him, it's a much different experience when he has little buddies to play with, chase, and wrestle. I'd give it another try. |

| I love the salt and pepper shakers! They are too cute. That's too bad about the dog park. I've never been to one with wood chips on the ground. It must be weird to walk around and feel that under their feet. Ive it just one more try, see if she needed to acclimate a bit.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Someone told me when I got a pup to expose her to LOTS of different surfaces -- grass, cement, brush, puddles, rocks, etc. I did that with Jillie and noticed a big difference in how she reacts to new surfaces compared with how my other Yorkie does. Of course, that's not ALWAYS a good thing. She's the first one to dive into a mud puddle when I'd rather she walk around it.

| Maggie doesn't care for the dog park unless my daughter is there with her two dogs. Buster likes it, he is usually the smallest dog but he doesn't care. The area around the water fountain is always muddy and that is the first place he goes, he loves to get muddy.
