| First shots and other puppy questions & issues I am buying a new puppy who was born October 1st. So far he has had no shots. Is this normal? I know when I got Gracie, she was 9 weeks old and had her first round of shots. The new little guy is just over 6 weeks old and the breeder is wanting to send him home already, or at least by Saturday when he'll be 7 weeks! I think that is VERY early and since he has had no shots I feel they are just breeding for the money not the health of the babies. I put down a $200 nonrefundable deposit on him, he does have AKC papers and the mother was on site but they had pictures of the father because the breeder's Mother breeds Yorkies in another town in our state so they breed their female with one of her males. When I bought Gracie I did not see the father either, and she's turned out perfectly fine. Part of me thinks I should not get the puppy, but at the same time I feel so sorry for him that I can't imagine leaving him there. They are charging $700 for the males and $900 for their females. The Mom is a 5 lb dog and she had 5 puppies in this litter. These "breeders" are two mid-20's people, a married couple, and their house was nice and nothing smelled or anything like that. But I think they basically are breeding Yorkies to help pay her nursing school tuition if you want my honest opinion. Feel free to privately email me at julie.reeg@gmail.com if you have thoughts, comments, suggestions, etc. Thanks!

| Per our vet + gneral knowledge: Trixie's pups had an oral worm treatment at 3 wks, will have another @ 5 wks and @ 7 wks. They will get their 1st shots at 6 wks (Parvo/distemper) and their second set at 8 wks. They will get their 3rd set of shots at 10 wks, at which time they will (hopefully) be in their new homes. |

| Now my vet said that mypups should get their 1st shots at 8 weeks and then at 12 weeks for their next dose....and I will not let them go until they are 11 weeks....but honestly they probably could go now at 9 weeks but I just can't let them go..hehehe...they are over 3 pounds and eating good...finally! and very social. How big will the little one be when you get her!! and I think she should pay for a least the first set of shots. |

| It's funny how all states and vets are different.. My vet said that small breed dogs should have shots at 6,9,12,and 15wks to ensure that they get enough and we have a low cost clinic here that charges $11.00 for the shots.. My opinion about breeders that let them go to early is this.. First of all, you can not change their minds about letting them go so early, so if you don't buy the puppy, then someone else will and it may be a someone who doesn't get their shots at all.. Second of all, if they are so eager to get rid of the puppies, then even if you do convince them to keep them longer, they will NOT play with them or socialize them and then you are no better off than if you had gotten him at 6wks and then YOU socialized him and cared for him.. You can't change people, but you can prevent the puppy from suffering by taking him ..Sorry to make this so long, but for example..I am getting a female on Friday that is 6wks old, I got Tucker when he was 8wks from the same breeder.. I do not like the fact that they do not socialize or spend time with the parents.. The adults live in a kennel and have no human contact, but they take great medical care of the adults and puppies. I have gone to visit Maddie every week since she was born and have bonded with her.. Then last week the breeder says that they wish that they had not already sold her cause then they would keep her for breeding..I love that little girl and am not about to leave her to be bred for the rest of her life...She is to young to come home, but as long as I know what I am doing, then she is better off coming home with me then staying there... |

| Seven weeks is pretty young to be leaving the mother. I got my male at 6 weeks . Just take the pup to the vet immediately for its shots. Then just keep the puppy from getting stressed. I wouldnt allow any children to handle the pup while its that young. The only problem I encountered from having one that young is that chachi got stressed and got diahrea and stopped eating. He had to be given antibiotics. Youre not getting him from the ideal situation but you have already commited yourself with the deposit so I would just try to make the best of it.
