Senior Yorkie Talker | A mommy's lost! On 2/27/11 @ 1:20PM EST, I had to make the most devastating decision in my life. I had to put Brooklynn Kouture to sleep. I know the community is wondering how it happened because i am still wondering. On friday Brooklynn urinated blood on the wee wee pad and we took her to the vet. They ran test and told us it was ANEMIA. I was sent to the specialist in NYC for further testing. It WAS IDIOPATHIC ANEMIA AND THEY HAD NO CLUE WHY OR HOW. Brooklynn fought as hard as she could and she even gave me the best 24 hours of my life yesterday. I WANT TO THANK THE YORKIE COMMUNITY FOR ALWAYS BEING THERE FOR US WHEN I HAD TONS OF NEW MOMMY SCARES. AT THIS TIME I DONT EVEN THINK ANOTHER DOG IS AN OPTION BECAUSE ITS TOO PAINFUL! PLEASE REMEMBER BROOKLYNN AS THE HIGH ENERGY HIGH FASHION YORKIE SHE WAS! 6 MONTHS WAS NOT A LONG TIME FOR US BUT HER LOVE WILL LAST A LIFETIME!

| Was she only 6 months old? Why did you choose to put her down? Was she not responding to treatment? I'm so sorry such a young baby was passed away...but your post leaves me with so many questions.. I hope you don't take my questions negatively...I just want to understand what happened.

Senior Yorkie Talker | She was nine months old but we got her 6 months ago. The anemia hit so hard so fast even if she would have got the transfusion it didn't look good at all

Senior Yorkie Talker | I dont take your questions negatively cause believe me im still going in circles trying to figure out how on thursday totally fine playing walking and talking and friday and saturday clinging to life. Her vet never had any issue with her blood work or her spayed. The specialist could not even pin point the how or why.

So the doctors didn't think there was a chance at all? They didn't at least try! I've read up on it....and many do survive the treatment...and she had her youth going for her..That is so sad!!!!

| I'm so sorry for you. The loss of a pet is always so difficult. I too have had to make the horrible choice to put a young pet down and it was absolutely devastating.

| I am so very sorry. I know what it is like to have to put one of your babies down, it is the most painful thing but time will help you heal and one day you will allow a new baby to enter your heart, like I did with my Charlie. My prayers are with you

Senior Yorkie Talker | Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia in Dogs (IMHA), Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia Immune mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA), also known as auto-immune mediated hemolytic anemia (AIHA), is a disease in which the body's immune system, which is designed to attack and kill germs, attacks and kills the body's own red blood cells. The attack begins when antibodies, which are molecules made by the immune system to target germs, instead attach to and target the animal's own red blood cells for destruction. The red blood cells carry oxygen to the tissues, and the animal cannot survive without adequate oxygenation of the tissues. The causes of IMHA remain largely unknown. While some cases of IMHA may be associated with a triggering event (cancer, infection, and perhaps even vaccinations), these events do not explain why the immune system misdirects its arsenal of weapons against the animal it is meant to protect. IMHA is a rapidly life-threatening disease. Even with appropriate treatment, this disease can be fatal. This Anemia is totally different from others

| hugs and prayers and so sorry for the loss of you precious baby. My heart so goes out to you I lost my binky in january and had to also make this decision. It hurt so bad to lose my baby it was just a bit over a week of losing her and I had her 11.5 years that my girls came to me with savannah's need for a rescue. I was still hurting pretty bad but I took the plunge and even though at first I was going to foster her the moment...I saw the poor little angel my heart was snagged. I know your hurting so badly right now but do not be afraid to love another. |
