Senior Yorkie Talker | Some one help me please! Hi, i am the mother of Brooklynn and my 7 month old baby got into some ham (deli Meat low sodium) yesterday she ate at least 6 to 7 slices in one gup before i knew she was eating it. She was fine all day yesterday and today until 3 hours ago. I notice that her stool was loose and it now has a reddish brown tint to it but im not sure if it is blood. But the one thing i am sure is that it has mucous in it. She has moved her bowel 2x in the last 3 hours and it is the same. IM SO SCARED and i BLAME MYSELF . I didn't realize i left the refrigerator open after loading the groceries in. She is not lethargic its just the stool issue. I took her food up because i want her to drinks a lot of water to see if she can run it out. Her Vet is close and every other in the next two towns.

| First, has she thrown up? If not that's a decent sign? If so you just have to watch that she doesn't stop drinking and that her sugar doesn't go low. Be thankful that you know what's causing her to be sick... Um when Harley got sick last, they gave him a shot at the vet to settle his tummy, but he was throwing up, and had loose bloody stool (we don't know what he got into). So with no access to a vet here are things to look for... First don't panic... if you're stressed out, you may make her stressed out. I know that much. I haven't had to deal with too much doggie first aid, but here's what I know, I'm sure you'll have a few posts soon to help you. Is she drinking? If so keep the water going to her so that she settles. Do you have any sort of syrup for if their sugar is low, like Nutra Cal, or I can't remember the name of the one I have. I would think that you may wish to give her a bit so that if she's pooing a lot her sugar isn't too off balance. I would keep a close eye on her, limit what she eats tonight (ie taking away her food was a good thing) if she looks hungry and getting back to normal later tonight I'd give a bland diet. If you also can't get to the vet tomorrow, feed a rice and boiled chicken diet, it's bland and will give her a chance to settle. With water and something bland she may be able to ride it out well. Hope this helps a little, just keep a good eye on her, get her to the vet as soon as it opens. Good luck.

| Don't mean to scare you but when i first brought my little Ceeby home, I didn't know any better and feed him one fourth of a deli ham slice. he nearly died from pancreatitis. I know it is the weekend but if your baby isn't better tomorrow you should take him to the vet. Don't beat yourself up over this. It was an accident. the kaopectate should help and chicken and rice will help too. But keep your eye on the little one. Deli ham is one of the worst things. |

| Sounds like things are going well, DON'T panic, that way you can keep her calm. I'm sure the pepto will help for sure. Another good thing about the rice is you can make it really mushy so that it has lots of water. that way you know she has consumed some water... If she does happen to stop drinking.

| Is she drinking? I know that when Rosie was sick that the drinking was a priority. They wanted to make sure she had water first then the food. They had me add a little sugar to the water to get her to drink it. It worked too. My vet also gave Rosie a shot to settle her tummy. It is good that she is not throwing up. Make sure she drinks water.

| Maybe you should post this in the sick and injured forum. That way more people can help you. Over the summer Louis started throwing up and had diarrhea. He kept moving around because he couldn't get comfortable. I took him to the vet and they treated him for pancreatitis. They gave him medicine for the vomiting and for the diarrhea. It is very scary when they are sick because they are so small. I would try to find an emergency vet. If this continues, I would not wait until Monday. 6-7 slices of ham is a lot for a little one to eat. Has she thrown up at all? I hope she is feeling better soon!

Senior Yorkie Talker | Im back and i have given Brooklynn the pepto and she is currently tearing up some white rice like a starving child. She still seems to be in good spirits because she is currently playing with my daughter and fiance chasing them around the house. For Lil LOuie she has not thrown up yet. However she just moved her bowels again and i really think its blood now. But i didnt see the mucous this time and she only had a little rather than the big mess it was before. Of Course this is after she just tore up some rice. Im taking her to the Vet in the morning MOnday is not even an OPTION!

| The pepto will probably turn her stool black so don't get scared, she may be fine by morning

Senior Yorkie Talker | Ok and thanks for the Heads up Micah cause i probably would have started to worry. The Funny thing is Brooklynn is kinda normal the only thing that is an issue is the stool. She is now playing with her toy like a child who was turned loose in toys r us. I mean her spirits is very high and her energy is up.

| Try not to worry to much she will most likely be fine or she would not be feeling so good right now since it was yesterday that she ate it. I would give her somemore pepto later at bedtime

| Honestly, I would never give my pups OTC meds without doing a consult with a vet; especially if they had eaten ham. Ham is a major cause of pancreatitis and I believe Brooklynn needs to be seen by a vet asap. Just my two cents. Hopefully she will be fine but it is worrisome that she ate ham.
