| think I almost got ripped off of one of my pups I could be wrong, I hate to assume; however, I think someone tried to scam me today over one of my puppies. I had someone call (through relay service/hearing impaired) and inquire about one of my puppies for sale and asked me to send pictures/information via email. I was a little hesitant, but thought without checking them out, maybe one of my little guys would be missing out on a potential good home. I thought my good deed would be if they decided they wanted the pup to sell them at a very discounted rate as I've worked with the deaf and hard of hearing, thus I know communication isn't always easy with the hearing world, plus I know how an animal is of great comfort to them, thus I would be doing something good (a therapist is currently considering one of them due to their seemingly high intelligence and calmness, so I figured the one would be good for someone with a disability). I emailed them with general information/pictures and requested they could meet me and the pup and see if it was a good fit for them. They returned the email, telling me they were going to send me a check (plus "extra", why???) and whatever was "extra" I could return to them via Western Union....etc., etc. Again, I realize that often hard of hearing people are very blunt/short sentences etc which often seem out of place to the hearing, so I took that into consideration, but I replied and said I would need to meet them (or their representative if travel was difficult - who knows what other disabilities they may have??) in person before selling them one of the pups and if they would still like to arrange a meeting to get back to me, of course I never heard back...thus I think I got caught up with thinking how nice it would be to help assist someone. I'd say the no response was a possible scam attempt and they we're hoping I was dumb enough to ship them a dog and "wait" for a check to arrive. Anyway, anyone have a similar situation? I know I've received several junk mails over the years "to buy someone's Yorkie because they can no longer care for it as they are missionaries in Africa...please send money and we'll send you the dog" lol So I do know people will scam in the name of the Lord, disabilities, and anything else they think they can get a way with (just kind of ticks me off I gave it careful consideration and was willing if the fit was right to basically give them the puppy as a way of "giving back") Blah. Whatever I guess... Kendra |

| I don't know how they heard of me/got my number as I try not to casually let the whole world know (opps, YT??!!! lol) I have Yorkies of value to prevent such things. I've have been excited about the pups and someone I know probably mentioned to someone offhand, then they mentioned, etc... Good to hear I didn't get taken in, bad to hear I won't be helping someone of true need. Thanks! Kendra |

| A friend of the family had something similar happen to her, only it was for a car she was selling. They wanted her to cash a check and resend the extra money they included for shipping the car. Luckily my mom stoped her right before she was about to leave for the bank. It's sad that scamers are resorting to using a disability in hopes of it actually working.

| I read the same scam in reverse almost posted on petfinder..."we had to move to Africa with our church for a mission...we need to re-home our pregnant dog and her pup" (huh was she pregnant and had pups or was this just entry level grammatical errors by someone who'd left a good paying fast food job to create scams? I get these types every time I list something on craigslist too-silly anyone would consider such an ordeal-always use secure payment method and stick to your plan of sales operations... |
