| My Baby Got SHAVED Okay, so I took my baby Bear to the groomers because I noticed he had some mats on his legs, and I told the groomer is she could just shave off the mats. Well, I was soon told my the groomer his mats were had to shave without making one of the legs look fluffier then the others, meaning a few shaved and the other not. And when I went to pick him up- MY BABY WAS FULLY SHAVED! I had been growing his hair out, and now it's all gone. Only a bit of his face fur remains. I am VERY upset!

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I can understand how you must feel. But... it won't take very long to grow back out, will it? And in the meantime he will be much happier with his daily brushing because you won't be fighting those awful mats. Furry or naked, they're still adorable. Can we see a photo so we can telly you how cute he is? |

| Few groomers will remove mats. You will have to be diligent and comb out his mats daily. I hope you live in a warmer part of the country. If not, you're going to need some sweaters this winter. I'm sure he won't miss someone tugging at those mats, though.

| That I agree with! Sadly, we live in Main But we do have a very nice snuggly sweater he loves to wear that keeps him warm...I can't WAIT for his fur to grow back

| Okay I made a mistake on the post I ment to say his legs that had mats had to be fully shaved while if she didn't shave the others as well he'd look....interesting. And he somehow had some on his back and belly as well, so thats why he came out shaved

| My groomer told me to use thinning scissors and to just cut through the mat. This unlocks the tangled hair rather than having to cut it off. Buster was cut pretty short for the summer and surgery so I have not tried it yet. Buster has one leg shaved clean and a big patch on his back shaved off for the epidural so he looks pretty funny. I hope your baby bear's hair grows back quickly. He looks really sweet in his avatar. |

dematting is very uncomfortable for the dog and a lot of groomers will not do it for the sake of the dog. Also, yorkies are usually small and quite wiggly on the tables which makes it more difficult to demat. The easiest thing to do for the dog is to give them a "smoothie" and start over again. I also noticed that your yorkie has a cotton coat and they are harder to maintain. My yorkie is the same way as yours so I just keep her short most of the time. its a lot of work to keep a cotton coated yorkie in a longer cut. You need to make sure you are getting a fine tooth comb through every part of her body all the way down to the skin. a lot of people "brush and comb" every but don't realize that they are only brushing the top coat and not going all the way through to the skin.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | honestly i agree with your groomer. He'd look pretty ridiculous with his legs cut short and his body left alone. If dogs have mats on their legs that cannot be removed then the whole dog is shaved, otherwise they look like a table

| Well I'm sure he looks just as cute as ever My lillte man has a cotton coat as well, and i have to constantly brush him out. I do keep him shorter so it's managable. Our new man we pick up Friday is a silky coat, which I've been told is easier to maintain.. It will grow out, hang in there

| Aww sorry to hear about a bad haircut...those cotton coats are so very hard to keep the matts combed out. I have two with cotton coats and one with a silk. How about a new sweater wardrobe with sleeves for his little legs and be careful as his new coat grows, the sweaters will really matt their coats!! Give him a big hug, you have to know he really feels embarassed about it
