Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Runners!!!!! I know that it's the terrier in them but both my babies will run off. We live on six acers of land and I like to see them run and play but if I let them off the leash they put their nose to the ground and God for bid they see a squirl or a cat. I'm afraid they want come back. Is putting up a fence the only way?

YT Addict | I think Mia can turn to the consistency of Jello so you really have to be sure of the fence. But probably so, my little doll is not trustworth. She has gotten loose on 2 occasions and we are lucky she came right to us but if she saw something move! Well all bets would be off. |

YT 1000 Club Member | I can't let my Charlie off a leash or he runs and runs. I don't know any other way than a fence unless you can train him not to run. I have had no success. Maybe someone else has some ideals.

| Yes. A fence is the only way to keep them safe. There are coyotes out there, too.

| I think the rule of thumb would be if you're not sure they will come back to you Don't let them loose My Zach I know will come to me anywhere My Mike on the other hand I'm not sure of In fact he tore away from me once to chase a cat I nearly had a heat attack because if he'd been near a road I'm not sure what would have happened If you've got acres and acres of land Yeah sure ... Let them run and play Make sure you have something with you that will be irresistible to them Like atreat that they love or a toy Don't ever get into the habit of calling them over and over again If they don't come after two calls You need to get them to you without anymore vocal calls You never want their name to be just noise or worse a call to play hide and seek

| I had a friend who lost their little one when it became frightened late in an afternoon. It ran right into some woods and they never found her.

| We live on about 40 acres and Roxie is allowed off leash, and she does not run off.

| I'm not comfortable with Levi off-leash anywhere but a safely fenced-in area. He loves running off-leash though, so we try to visit dog parks or friends with fenced in yards often!

| My Neo is definely a runner, so DH had a chain link fence put up in the back yard last spring. Connor has not (as of yet) had the chance to make a break for it. I think about buying one of those training leads that are extremely long, so the dog thinks it is running loose, but you actually have control over it. That is probably the best of both worlds for our little runners. |
