| Help Is There A Poison Control Number For Dogs!!!! Coco and I were visiting a friends house today and she comes into the living room with one of those little Combat Roach thingies in her mouth. You know the little black discs people put in their houses to kill roaches! She hadnt chewed it up or anything it was just in her mouth She has been acting kind of strange since we have gotten home. Laying behind the couch and not really near me. She has also been shaking off and on. I do not know the number to any 24 hour vet hospitals or even what to do. I have been testing her out to see if she is ok by seeing if she wants a treat (she responded as usual to that) and then I said "wanna go outside" and she went bonkers like she usually does but then when she realized we werent going out she went back behind the couch to lay down. I am SOOOO worried about her I don't know what to do. I know this stuff doesn't kill roaches right away so I'm hoping it doesn't have the same affect on a small dog like 2 days from now she will be dead. I'm even afraid to wait till morning. I don't know if I am panicking or not. But I am taking her to the vet first thing in the morning I hope she is ok until then |

| We once thought one of our large dogs ate mouse poison. We weren't sure but we weren't taking any chances. They give a big dose of vitamin K as the antidote. I don't know about insecticide. I think in a pinch I'd call the poison control number on the package. I don't know about your area but I don't think there is a 24 hour vet around here. |

| I don't know if that was Combat brand your yorkie had, but these are the instructions for Combat: Warnings Use only in areas inaccessible to children and pets. Keep out of reach of children. Hazards to humans and domestic animals. Harmful if swallowed or absorbed through the skin. Causes moderate eye irritation. Avoid contact with eyes, skin or clothing. Wash hands before eating, drinking, chewing gum, using tobacco or using the toilet. Physical or Chemical Hazards: Do not use this product or on electrical equipment where a possibility of shock hazards exists. First Aid - If Swallowed: Call Poison Control Center or doctor immediately for treatment advice. Have person sip a glass of water if able to swallow. Do not induce vomiting unless told to do so by the Poison Control Center or Doctor. Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. If on Skin or Clothing: Take off contaminated clothing. Rinse skin immediately with plenty of water for 15-20 minutes. If in Eyes: Hold eye open and rinse slowly and gently with water for 15-20 minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present, after the first 5 minutes, then continue rinsing eye. Have the product container or label with you when calling a Poison Control Center or doctor or going for treatment. | 1-800-222-1222 is the telephone number for every poison center in the United States. Call this number 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to talk to a poison expert. Call right away if you have a poison emergency. Also call if you have a question about a poison or about poison prevention. There is now one single telephone number for poison emergencies. BUT there is still a network of 65 poison centers around the country. When you call you will still talk to your local poison center experts. To find the name and address of the poison center that answers your calls, enter your zipcode. Have an old number for your poison center posted on your phone? Don't worry. It will still work. But when you get a chance, post and learn the new number. How does it work? When you call , you are automatically connected to the poison center for your area. Your call is routed according to the area code and exchange of the phone number you are calling from. If you call from a cell phone, you will reach a poison center. Depending on your cell phone carrier, you might reach the poison center in the area where you are or in the "home" area of your cell phone. Either poison center can help you. If you need local assistance but reach the poison center back home, the "at home" poison center can coordinate with the poison center at your current location. You will get the care and information that you need. http://www.poison.org/actFast/1800.asp

Go to this site!!!! http://www.aapcc.org/ Here's the number!!!!! 1-800-222-1222. Here it is, I think everyone should have it. I'd put it under Poison Control, as it is for all poisons.

| That's a good idea. No matter how careful we think we are, things can still happen.

You had some good links too. I bookmarked them on this computer. After working at a school for 14 years I have learned it's better to be safe than sorry. Thanks for the links!

anyhoo....thanks all you guys for your concern I actually poured water in her mouth which I see the person that posted about combat it said to make them drink water if swallowed. She didn't like it but it did seem to do the trick she stopped shaking about a 1/2 hour after that and was up and playing when a friend of mine came over shortly after that. She was then back to her normal hyper self and even this morning she was perfectly fine. I was just so worried about her. I am looking now for a 24 hour emergency vet in case anything like this ever happens again! | |
