| Aggression. Castor Pollux is almost 9 months. He love people and was always a little skittish of other dogs. He'd get around other dogs and want me to pick him up. Then he grew some balls (literally) got very posessive and territorial (not in a bad way, just more than before). He'd walk up with other dogs instead of running to me and sit down (which according to the trainer meant he didn't want the other dogs to be his friend or sniff his butt) I got him neutered and since he's still sounding off the alarm when a car passes by, but he's gotten really agressive toward other and most of the time bigger dogs. He'll go up to another dog, bark at them try to bite them and try to fight them. I pick him up quickly because he's so little and these other dogs are much bigger than he is. He's fine with people. If someone comes in and I say hi to them he'll happily greet the people, he's never bitten a person. but as soon as another dog is around he wants to fight them. He especially hates German Shepards (which is obviously dangerous, and why we stopped going to obedience classes he tried to fight this dog several times) Is that just a Yorkie thing? or my fault? (becasue he is terribly spoiled) Im graduating from college this year (december) and want to get another yorkie puppy around June of next year-- Castor Pollux will be just turning 2. I don't want to get this new puppy if he is going to be mean-- since it will be a yorkie puppy (we all remember how tiny they are) Castor Pollux could potentially kill the new one... any help would be appreciated. |

| was he socialized as a puppy? He is still young you could try a puppy day care that would be willing to work with him. Take him for walks were there are other dogs and maybe to a dog park. Maybe he is just scared bc he hasn't been around many dogs. I would fix the problem before I got a new puppy. good luck

| he wasn't... he was just with me and when he was a puppy he was so scared of other dogs that i stopped taking him around other dogs and now... he's aggressive with them so i guess this is my fault... how can I fix it. Everytime he's around another dog (and anyother animal) its like he isn't himself, he becomes killer Castor Pollux. I don't want to take him around other dog bc I don't want any animals getting hurt... Do you think getting another dog will help the situation? |

| Getting another dog at this time, IMO will not help. You just may end with 2 instead of 1 having fearful problems. First off, it's not uncommon for a small dog, like a Yorkie, to be the aggressor around large dogs. Yorkies think they are big and at times feel intimated seeing large dogs and react. I will tell you what our trainer told me; Take treats on your walk. Small pieces such as, chicken, cheerios etc. When you see a large dog coming, go to the other side of the street, distract your dog showing him the treat and talk to him while feeding it to him. Evenutally the dog will come to realize good things happen when a dog approaches and there's nothing to fear. Consistency is key. In time you can try approaching a dog when yours has more confindence in doing so. Good luck, |
