Getting another dog at this time, IMO will not help.
You just may end with 2 instead of 1 having fearful problems.
First off, it's not uncommon for a small dog, like a Yorkie, to
be the aggressor around large dogs. Yorkies think they are big
and at times feel intimated seeing large dogs and react.
I will tell you what our trainer told me;
Take treats on your walk. Small pieces such as, chicken, cheerios
etc. When you see a large dog coming,
go to the other side of the street, distract your dog showing him
the treat and talk to him while feeding it to him. Evenutally the
dog will come to realize good things happen when a dog approaches
and there's nothing to fear. Consistency is key. In time you can
try approaching a dog when yours has more confindence in doing
so.
Good luck, |
