| Mean Breeder! There were a few sites I found that I'm contimplating getting a puppy from. I've been extremely picky, and I thought I had found "The breeder". So last week I made my attempt to email her and tell her a little bit about myself and what I'm looking for. In her website, she was very clear that she interviews the person interested in her pups as they should interview her. I liked the fact that she said that, and that's one of the things that put her over the top for me. Well, she never emailed me back after over a week, and so I decided to call her since she also gave her number on the website. I just got off the phone with her and she was SO RUDE!!!! I just wanted to ask you guys if you think I'm being overly sensitive. Here's what happened: She answered the phone and I told her my name and how I got her number and that I would like to learn more about her and how much she's asking for her puppies(she mentioned to call or email her for prices). She cut me off while I was talking and said that she only has Malteses right now and she couldn't give me any information. Then I told her that I wasn't looking for a pup until at least March of next year, and that I was just checking out breeders. That actually got her mad! She said that she doesn't know when she'll have pups available and she can't give me any price until she has the pups because she won't know what they'll look like or they're weight. I complimented her on her champion lines and wanted to know a ballpark since they are high quality, and she snapped at me! She asked what weight I was looking for, and I said anywhere from 4-8 lbs (it's not a big deal), and she said that was a HUGE range,(as if I was crazy) and that a 7 lb puppy was HUGE! She said that her prices start off from like $1800 (that's supposedly the biggest and non champion i think) but that depending on puppy could be like 1500 but then she repeted herself by saying that $1800 was usually BEGINING PRICE for a male. It was as if she was mad at me for asking what she charged! To be honest, I was really only expecting to pay between $600 and $1200 for a pup. I was expecting her to ask em questions about myself and I could ask her more questions about her and it would be a great conversation, but I got the feeling that she thought I was a pain in the butt! Did I do something wrong? If I did, please le mt know so I dont make this mistake again. I called at 7:30pm so I wouldn't interrupt anyone's dinner and so that it would be before anyone went to bed. Sorry for the long message. What do you guys think??? |

| I don't think you did anything wrong. The best thing to find a reputable breeder is through the breed's club of your area. Don't just do your search online. if they are not interested in telling you about their dogs, RUN. but do expect to pay a higher amount when you buy from professional breeders (compared to buying from those backyard breeders). $1800 doesn't sound outrageous at all. you might want to ask more questions if the breeder sells a yorkie or a maltese for <$1000, such as maybe the puppies have no pedigree, the parents might be huge (not that i mean big babies are not cute). But the standard size for Yorkies is 4-7 lbs. I'm not a breeder, but hope this helps. I researched for a long time before i got Bambi. A good breeder should be helpful and available to you 24/7 and would never snap at you. |

| HI welcome to YT! I cannot (actually I can) believe have rude she was to you...Sounds to me as if she was a so called "teacup" breeder, and had something stuck up her gangees. Dont let this bother you. There are alot of breeders that are like that---in it just for the $$--- and then there are some that would appreciate your research and interest in what they are doing. You will find someone soon. Have you tried looking in the paper? I had found alot of people on the net were just interested in making more money. And not interested in the well being of the puppy.

| that's how I went about finding info about the breed. I found a few really nice people who were more then willing to answer any questions I had. Some even went as far as to invite me to look at their yorkies. There was this really nice lady I had talked to for a while,, but she had just sold her puppies and she had a waiting list for the next litter. I took her up on her offer to visit her and her 7 beautiful babies. I had so much fun playing with them! She was so full of information and didn't mind all the stupid question I had. You are doing the right thing. There are some breeders out there who are so rude, but don't give up there are really nice ones out there too! Did you try my breeder YorkiePals? They are 2 of the sweetest ladies you will ever meet. And their furbabies are so darn adorable!

| If she is really that type of person, I wouldn't buy from her. You were not out of line to ask questions..If she is that rude to you, I wonder how she treat her dogs. There are good breeder out there, just keep looking and you will find your perfect pup....Sherry |

| I had a similar experience.... when I asked about a price at the beginning of the conversation. But if I called back and just let them talk to me about themselves and their babies for how ever long they wanted and left the price discussion for the end of the conversation I got much better results. I also contacted some breeders more than once trying both "methods" and when I asked at the end the price was a little lower, maybe $200 or so. Anyway, some breeders can be a little rude but don't give up you'll find the one that's right for you. |

| Hugs, sorry you had a bad experience with this breeder. I have had the same experiences with other breeders, so I understand what you went through. I have had several just hang up on me.,, I am now a breeder myself so with my past experiences I know now what I will not do to potential buyers. It was a good learning curve for me. But you didn't do anything wrong. Don't let this discourage you from calling others... This just wasn't the person for you, probably not the pup either. Keep your head up stick to your guns and don't compromise on your pup. All your questions should be answered with a good attitude...

| This lady was completely rude. Just find another breeder. She obviously isnt too concerned with selling her puppies.

| I have had that happen to me before, and I really think some people feel like (you are not the only person looking for a yorkie so if you don't like how I am then oh well, movin on) Alomost like they have a right to be rude!! just find someone else, she'll get whats comming to her!! The breeder I bought my Boston Terrier form has yorkies right now that shes asking 700 for them, I would totally recommend her, if you would like her e-mail let me know. Good luck in your search!!

| I bet I can guess the name of this breeder Or maybe I met her evil twin. Is she in the OC? I think you can find a nice pup in that price range but if you go to a show breeder or someone associated with the Yorkshire Terrier Club the price will be higher. (In Southern CA) I could be wrong...but I looked for about a year. I wanted a small female though. Large males are less. This is a good place to get a lot of information. Best wishes finding a nice pup. |

| I'm glad you are taking your time looking for the right baby, I had to do the same thing for Princess. I knew she was out there, I just had to find her. A good Breeder wants you to ask lots of questions, and they want to ask you lots of questions too. My Breeder put it this way to me. I my be Princess's new Mommy, but she will always be her Grandma. I'm sure you will find your baby soon. Welcome to YT, you have joined a great group of friends, who really have a love for their babies. I hope you will keep us updated on your search.

Maybe it was for the best. Put it this way, aren't you glad you found out now? Just think if you did buy a pup from her, it's obvious you would not be able to communicate with her after the fact. Good luck in finding a pup in early 2006, mine will be ready to be placed in early December 2005. In California pups range between 800 - 1500 an average is 1200. Make sure the breeder has atleast one of the parents. I have both. Again good luck, and not everyone is that cold hearted.

Yeah, she's in the OC, and she is registered with YTC and the AKC and probably many more plus she has champion dogs, and some non champion but very cute ones as well. I figured that since she went to the trouble to be in all those clubs and the paperwork and takign care of her pups for show, that she'd be top notch, but she's so rude! I did make small talk with her before talkign about money--I told her that I grew up (11 years) in her town and bla bla bla...but she wasn't any nicer to me at all. You guys are so sweet and I'm so glad I found this site! I'll definitely contact some of you to get more information about the breeders you know of. I really apprecitate all the replies!

| I don't see how you possibly did anything wrong, you asked some very good questions and you gave a lot of thought into her consideration of the time you called, finding out what you could so far on her web site, etc. You might have just caught her at a really bad time or ?? but that is still no excuse to have made you feel the way you do. However, due to her behavior Id take this as a big red flag and research other breeders. Let's say you did purchase/adopt a Yorkie from her or didn't and needed to speak with her again, she'd possibly be rude to you again or whatever. I feel one of the most important aspects in finding a good breeder is having the ability to communicate with each other. The relationship does not normally end with the purchase of the Yorkie but long afterwards.

I KNEW it! Yup, that's her. Not mentioning any names but this person has a website that definitely draws you in to thinking she is very ethical. She shows dogs at YTC shows (and others) but she is not on their referral list. I could tell it was her by your research and her response. Yes, her dogs are beautiful and she has had many champions but.... Don't get discouraged! It only gets better after her. In my opinion she overcharges for most of her dogs ($1500-$4000 and up) but $1500-$2500 is not unusual for a dog from a show breeder...even if it is pet quality. (here in southern ca) Keep doing your research and if you can attend a show...GO! there is one in Oct. in Northern Ca. Great place to see beautiful dogs and see/meet breeders from all over. Yes, "she" will be there. In the meantime many people on here got wonderful pups from smaller breeders that breed for pets. I hope you find some good leads.
