| Dog shows for the "under yorkie"? Hello, Please note that I in no way mean to insult our furrybabies or owners at all. However, the AKC has some really strict standards for what classifies a Yorkie and what is the breed standard, and who can and can not participate in dog shows. This is not a commentary on the AKC or their standards-I beleive in standards. Consequently, I am wondering are there dog shows 1) specifically for Yorkies 2) non-akc standard shows where it is just for fun and celebrate our furbabies 3) Are there dog shows for Yorkies who do not sport the long coats and wear cuts like the puppy cut? I am just wondering! Please feel free to post! |

| Yes the standard for breeding and show dogs is very specific, but you could possible participate in something like agility, or obedience with your dog. There are no rules as to appearence for these activities, and it is a great opportunity for you and your dog to do some bonding. I am trying to train mine for their AKC canine good citizen tests.

| I forgot to add that, there are conformation shows for yorkies, they are specialty shows and really neat to watch. You can find them through your local ytca parent clubs or on infodog.com

| There's also free style, where the owner and the yorkie chorograph and dance together. Great entertainment and fun to watch.

My MIL dances with her sheltie. It is very entertaining to watch. Here is a video of her group several years ago: There is a yorkie in their group, but not in this video. There are a lot of fun things you can do with your yorkie!

| Here is a better video of her... but the music is missing: I think it is amazing the amount of control these people have over their dogs. Using only oral commands, they are able to get their dogs to do some amazing stuff

WOW that is amazing. I would love to see a yorkie perform like this. Do you think as a whole they are too independent?

| If I understand what you are asking, they are an independent group... but there are a lot of other groups around. They compete against eachother and earn points and prizes.
