| Zoe Is Not Being A Good Mom!!!! The last couple of days Zoe has been spending less time with her pups....I never see her feeding them anymore...she just stays at my side all the time..shes eating really good, really playful so i know she is feeling well...I did notice that the puppies did not gain their normal 1oz or so from yesterday until today...Is this normal? The puppies were alittle fussy this morning...they all actually crawled out of the box this morning and were pretty whiny...The puppies were 3 weeks yesterday.....when should I start to introduce them to food?? Am I just being a over concerned grandma or should I start worring...maybe I should put them all in the bedroom with Zoe and close the door so she has to be with them.....What do you think (anyone in New York that travels the Subways.....May God be with you!) |

| My Pom did this with her puppies at 3&1/2 weeks. They are still very tiny and do need thier momma's milk but if momma dont want to nurse them you gotta step in. I tried keeping all of them in the bathroom with the door shut but she would snap at the pups. I didn't want her to hurt them,,,, She would play with them but just didn't mother them. So I had to bottle feed the little ones and luckly they took to baby food too. I kept them on sub. milk for dogs and cats and chicken & rice baby food. I kept this up for 2 weeks,,, by that time they were eatting dry puppy food on thier own. 3 out of 4 did great. Not that the 4th did badly, but stood with the bottle feeding and baby food for 2 weeks longer they the others. It was so upseting to see momma nipping at the babies when they would try and feed. All puppies are healty and went to good homes and I do keep intouch with 2 of them but I hear that the other 2 are just fine. They went to family or friends of the father. (my neighbor) So she tells me that they are all doing just fine.

| This is about the age that my mom wanted to be with us, and her pups, she was torn... I found that if I went to the box where the pups were with mom, and pet her she would lay down and feed them.... I don't think they are being bad parents, they are just torn. |

| I would try to put them together, stay with them and watch to see if she feeds them, if not bottle feeding is a good idea. Please keep us posted. (anyone in New York that travels the Subways..... May God be with you!)

| Thank you with your replies...I was afraid that no one was reading other threads other than the one about the 1lb6oz baby (not that that wasn't important) |

| I am sorry Zoe is causing you to worry, I hope she comes around really soon and is a wonderful mother to the babies. Missys never had babies so I've never experienced this, I am of no help. You've recieved great advice already, hopefully more breeders will see this thread and give you some advice. Did you also post this in the breeder section? Good luck and keep us posted on her and her babies.

I would have guessed that's what it was, because they are really just babies themselves.

| I would put her in with the pups and make a total fuss over her. Tell her how pretty she is and what a good Mamma she is. Even give her a treat while she feeds them. It is normal for her to want some time away from them at this age. However, you do need to watch closely and make sure she is feeding them. At 3 weeks, she will tend to do the necessities....feed and clean up and then want away from them. It is also important to help keep the area clean so she doesn't eat all of the waste anymore. Good luck and keep us posted. |

| I would try what was already said. I would put her with her puppies and sit there with her. mommys milk is the best milk for them right now. Just try laying her down and pet her as the puppies get what they need then tell her good girl. I would do this each feeding. |

I would try and work with the mom to let them feed. I tried with my pom but she just didn't want any part of it. I was scared she would hurt them because she made it clear that she was not having it. Good luck to you. Please keep us posted!

| Thank you Latuya....Zoe and I sat down and had a nice long talk along with a belly rub...and I explained to her that she is a momma now and doesn't really have a choice about it...its too late to turn back now...and that she only has a couple more weeks togo and then she can live her life as she wants to and did befor...(except she will have Lizzy to deal with....I didn't tell her that part) but for now its her time to be a mom and she needs to feed her babies and be there for her....then I set her down on the ground and told her to go be with her babies....she looked at them, then looked back at me and proceeded to go to the bedroom....opposite of the babies...oh well I tried...i'm thinking shes going to sleep on what we talked about and when she gets up she will be a new and improved mom!....Yah right!!!!!! |
