| Getting up to pee in the middle of the nite! My two yorkies who are now almost 2yrs old and are completely housebroken, have decided that they have to go out to pee at 3 AM! Why have they started this and what can I do to stop it!! I have started cutting one nail each time they want out in the middle of the nite but it doesn't seem to be working. Sometimes my female will use the peepad but male won't use it at all. Both are healthy and don't have any urinary tract or bladder issues. It's as bad as having a newborn again!

| I dont have the answer i'm afraid, as Molly usually has to get up sometime in the night. I dont switch the lights on, dont talk to her and get back to bed as quick as possible! My old doggy had me up every hour in her last few months, and she had usually done a poo on my bedroom floor and walked through it several times, so getting up with Molly is easy! Hopefully someone will come along and tell us the answer!

| I feel your pain as I'm in the same boat. Not sure what we can do??? It's annoying!!! Li can go nine hours in her crate while we're at work so why can't she go eight hours at night without having to go??? I even take her food and water away at 7:00 at night. I realize some will disagree with this but I do it and she's fine. I've done it with Leo since Day One and he's thriving. Anyway, it doesn't help.

| And actually, I shouldn't say it doesn't work. I just started it up again recently and haven't been consistent with remembering to put food/water up at 7:00. So, maybe if I was consistent, it would make a difference.

| I have no idea what you could do. Jackson generally sleeps through the night, until 9am the next morning but some nights, he will wake up in the middle of the night to potty. It's rare and he always truly has to go pee so outside we go!

| Thanks for the responses. Atleast I know I'm not alone! Tessa and Harley both do pee when they go out and when they come in, they head straight back to bed and snuggle in! I guess I should just be thankful that they are waking me up and not going on the floor! Happy Holidays to everyone!

| Definitely not alone!! I get up every single night at least once...because among the Fab5 there is always someone who doesn't go the first time they have a chance! I guess better outside though than on the floor.

Anyway, what do you mean you cut the nail each time they go in the night? Like as in punishment? I don't think you should associate nail cutting as punishment, I think they hate it too much already. You should praise them that they are alerting you when they need to go, and not just going on the bed or whatever and not telling you. They are doing a good job!
