Uni was doing this for a while also. Exactly at 3am, just like you! I don't know why, we keep to a schedule, same as always. And she stopped, again, don't know why, she just did! Oh did I hate getting up at 3 am and it was cold! Of course she woke ME up and not bf!
Anyway, what do you mean you cut the nail each time they go in the night? Like as in punishment? I don't think you should associate nail cutting as punishment, I think they hate it too much already. You should praise them that they are alerting you when they need to go, and not just going on the bed or whatever and not telling you. They are doing a good job!
