| My Little Guy Was Just Neutered Hi, I had my little guy, Rusty, neutered yesterday and he came through it with flying colors. My vet gave me some antibiotics and a cone to place over his head to prevent him from licking himself. Well, he just can't figure out why he has to wear this cone, lol!! He thinks he is being punished and has this sad look upon face. I was told he needs to wear it for 5-6 days. He also had a couple of canine puppy teeth pulled during the surgery, which the vet said wouldn't have fallen out on their own. I gave him a little baby food today, turkey with gravy, which was recommended by the vet and he just loved it. He said that it would be okay for a couple of days, just until his mouth heals up. Is it true that I have to keep him away from my female, who came into heat about 2 1/2 weeks ago, for two more weeks due to residual sperm? This is her first heat and I separated them at the first sign of blood because I didn't want them to breed. Is it normal for the female's nipples to look a little red and raised up when they are in heat? My dogs are half brother and half sister and I was told it might cause some genetic problems if they were to breed. It was not my intention when I brought them home to breed them and that is why I had my male neutered. I am planning on having my female spayed as soon as she is out of heat. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

| Yes, you need to keep them separated. You can also use a baby onsie instead of the cone. If you put it onto him backward it will cover the incision and he will not need to be in the cone all of the time. Please be very careful with your little girl while she is in heat. You surely don't want any accidents. You will be surprised how good your little man will be feeling tomorrow! They make such a quick recovery!
