| two kinds of coats? I am really confused about this coat thing. I thought all yorkies were the same but from reading on here some can be soft and some silky. I have posted on here that I am allergic to our pup 11 weeks old. He has a very fluffy soft coat . I thought he would lose that coat and get a silky coat but I have found out that some are soft coat yorkies? and not silky. His coat is very dark black with a lot of black around his face and legs as well. I have no allergic reaction to my two year old yorkie. Got him at over a year old and he was always silky.Different breeders . I have read that yorkies come from silky terriers long ago so just thought the coat was always silky unless they were mixed breed. If anyone can clear this up for me I would appreciate it. |

| I know some have , silky coats some have cottny coats ( like my puppy) and some have a mixture , I guess thats what it is called.... but all new puppies have that dark black thick fluffy coat, isnt it just too cute!! Are you sure its your puppy and not seasonal allergies? My daughter has severe allergies she is on 4 different medications, she has no reaction to either of the yorkie coats..my friend does rescue and has several dogs (yorkies) with various coats none seem to bother her at all!! Maybe because his coat is long and fluffy he is bringing in pollen or something from outside.. I use baby wipes to wipe off my puppies feet when she comes in.. I also juts give her a quick wipe down all over to make sure no leaves or dirt is on her.. ( takes less then 30 seconds). I hope this helps!!

| At 11 wks it's too soon to tell what kind of coat she will have. Buddy at 14wks had a very soft fluffy coat. Softest hair I have ever felt. He has a straight silky coat as an adult. Give it time. Not until around 6-7mos will she loose her puppy coat. |

| Thanks to all. I know it is him I am allergic to as the allergy started within a day of getting him. I was fine before.I was hoping if he would lose his coat it would be sooner as I am having a really bad reaction to him. I cant take meds every day as they give me heart palpitations. |

| If you bathe him do your symptoms get better? Then you'd know for sure it's him..it's a thought?

All Yorkies have this fluffy black and brown coat when they are litle They´re coat turns Bluesilver and golden when they get a bit older, and become silky when the blue coat starts to come My Fido has both black coat on his body, and bluesilver on his head and feet, where the silver and brown coat is there the coat is silky, where the black coat is there the coat is soft and fluffy Btw. silky coat is also soft! its even softer than the fluffy puppycoat!

| Thanks everyone . We have cut his hair a little shorter now as someone had suggested on here somewhere and I hope it will help the allergy a bit cause it is hard to deal with. |

I have a 4 year old yorkie and her baby (12 weeks)old I have SEVERE allergies/asthma. None of my babies bother me but there was a lady who posted on her a little while ago where her and her son broke out in hives from her furbaby. Not sure what type of medicine your on but can you do zyrtec over the counter? I get heart palipations from some meds to but this one seems to work for me. Have you tried allergy shots?

OH, and also bathing your baby weekly will help. Don't have them sleep with you either. I know this is hard from some but for those with allergies it's a MUST.
