| Yorkie life span only 7 years!!? I went to the local pet store today and the owner told me that a yorkie only has a life span of 7 years average, and if they live that long consider yourself lucky! This is my first time hearing this, I'm sure I read that they live up to 14 years. I'm hoping she isn't right.

Thor's Human Donating Member | Completely false. There's a thread in the news section about a yorkie who happened to be 24 years old. Like most small breeds, it's not a shock for them to reach 20.

| This is another fine example of why not to buy from a pet store!

| OK..I just googled this, most sites stated 10-15 years. Unfortunately this store owner is a person that claims to know it all. I'm happy she isn't right!

| A lot of times they have that certain arrogance! Obviously, she was totally wrong. I wonder where she got her information. Oh well, it is impossible to talk to someone who is "always right"

| She may be right...on account of HER pet shop/puppy mill puppies aren't healthy enough to make it past 7 yrs. Outside of that thought, she's a ditz. |

| She is wrong....maybe she had Yorkies mixed up with Great Danes! In general, the larger the dog, the shorter the lifespan. Eight years is a long life for a Great Dane, sadly. |

| Ugh, tell me please, that this is not where Bailey is coming from? Another reason not to get any information from pet stores. Darlene, I applaud you (again) for all of the research you are doing!

| Yorkie lifespan is 12-15 years average. It is not uncommon for them to live to be 16-17.

| My oldest is 12 yrs. old and I hope to have her for at least another 6 yrs....hopefully more. I'm doing my best to keep her healthy. She'll be having eye surgery this summer to help her stay on track. I also question some of the info that pet supply store owners give. I was in a pet supply store in Wichita and a customer was there wanting to know how to get her two Morkies to not pull on their leashes. The owner brings out two leashes with chains to go around the neck. I got behind some merchandise and got the owners attention and did the throat cut signal, shaking my head. Then told them that I was partial to no-choke harnesses. As I was leaving I noticed the Morkie owner was buying two no-choke harnesses. Why would you put choke chains around tiny necks?

| Nooooo!! I would not buy an animal from a pet store..I wish everyone would quit buying pet shop animals Even though she said that her pups are bought off reputable breeders, and she is a small local store owner, I would never take the chance of supporting something so ugly and cruel.
