| personality change after heat cycle? My Zoey has a male Maltese friend named Jack who she used to LOVE to play with. Everyone said Zoey was relentless when playing with him and would go full-speed for hours!! When Jack would get tired, she would go and harass him to continue playing with her. She went through her first heat cycle in Late April/May. I do understand about spaying her and lost my first male Yorkie unexpectedly while he was being neutered. So, I am going to spay her but I wasn't going to rush in to this as I felt I had with my male. She has completely changed with regard to playing. She now cowards down while Jack tries to play with her until she has had enough and goes a little "psycho" on him to let him know she is done. Am I being impatient or will she eventually get back to her old self? Her nipples are no longer swollen. Anyone experienced this? Last edited by SammySyverson; 06-06-2009 at 05:32 PM. |

| Yes, it is very common for females to have a change in personality for about two months following the heat cycle. Your little girl should be back to normal after that and that would probably be the best time to have her spayed, otherwise you will have to deal with these mood changes after every heat cycle. |

| Yes....when Gracie goes into heat her personality changes and she sleeps more and is just not her perky usual self. Sometimes is lasts for a couple of months. Just tonight my DH asked when he was going to get his little girl back.

| This is exactly how Maddie is right now, and she doesn't want to be fussed with at all, poor baby girl. She just wants to napping on my lap all the time, I cannot wait till this is over and I can get her spayed. And hopefully she will be back to her fiesty little self.

If you get her spayed before she has a second heat cycle, her risk of getting cancer as she gets older is only 8%. (Spaying females before they ever have a heat cycle eliminates the risk altogether). If she has a second heat cycle, her risk of mammary cancer jumps to 25%, the same as an unspayed female. | |
