| Yorkie smell after being outside.. Hi YT family, every time I bring Mimi outside and come back in whether it be like 5 minutes or 1 hour, she smells like outside when she comes back in. Like the smell is really not describable, it does not smell really bad but it smells like outside and like a unwashed dog. Even after I wash her I have to wash her again when she comes back from playing outside. Is there a reason for this, do other members go through the smell from their yorkies after being outside? Is this normal? Is there a shampoo or a spray I can use to prevent this?

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | This happens to Joey too, but the smell goes away within an hour and I don't do anything about it. It usually happens after a run in the park, on a hot day. They say dogs don't sweat anywhere but their paws, but it sure smells like it.

| YES! I notice the same thing, even at my in-laws house with their dogs. I wish there was a way to avoid it but i doubt there is!

| Spray I bought a spray at Target. "Just as Fresh", Coconut calypso. I will use this in between bathings. I have also seen doggy wipes.

| I know what you're talking about. Even my kids get that smell when they play outside! I just use the earthbath tea tree wipes and spray him with some Bio-Groom Groom 'N Fresh. |

| Unfortunately, JoJo will smell "doggy" if he goes outside. Don't know why because he certainly doesn't think he is a dog! The smell usually goes away in a little bit though. I was his beard and feet between baths. Wish I had an answer to how to keep that fresh bath smell all of the time. Um-um good. |

| my little girls have the same smell so did my skin kids when they were young. It was just easier to clean the skin kids than the fur kids

Thor's Human Donating Member | I'm not sure I know exactly what the smell you're talking about is. However, one of Thor's favorite parks uses a fertilizer with some kind of fish in it, and if we go on the wrong day, he stinks to high heaven when he gets back. Usually I just fill the sink up halfway with warm water and dunk him in, unless it's really bad, and that prompts a bath. I have seen those sprays, though. I try not to bathe Thor more than once every two weeks, but he gets a couple mini-baths during that period. He hates having his beard washed more than anything else, so that usually ends up being the grossest part of him, unfortunately. His toothpaste gets stuck in it and that grabs pretty much anything else gnarly that's around. I wish it were easier to wash his face.

| whew. Glad I thought I was the only one.lol. I will check out the sprays mentioned here. Now the smell is going away. her paws smell the worst though lol. I am pretty sure she does not roll in anything. Even after she goes on porch(which is cement) and comes back in after 5 mins she smells like outside. The smell comes from her hair more than anything. When she is inside she smells so nice. Only outside is the problem =/

| I don't want her to be stuck in the room cause she smells when she goes outside. then I dont want to wash her everyday since thats bad. Would washing some parts help because the smell comes from her fur. Would the sprays help or just make the smell worst with the mixture?

| I use a detangler spray between baths by Paul Mitchell. It smells great! You could use a spray if you want. I don't think its hurts! Also try to maybe just wipe the paws with a baby wipe, that could help a lot. That way you don't have to keep getting him wet. The smell does go away after a little bit, but I know what you mean. Search Threads for some sprays, you could even order one online. They are good for daily grooming too, not just the odor.
