| Why is she acting like a boy????? Jasmine is at the end of her first heat and we can't wait until she's done. Lately, she's been marking all over the house and humping our cat. She's 9 mos old and she will be spayed in June. Do you think this is just something new or could it have to do with the fact she is in heat? We haven't done anything about it because we are still in shock. Suggestions......please!!!!!!

YT 2000 Club Member | Our poodle Prissy was spayed before she went in heat, now she is 7 yrs old, and she still continues to hump! I guess I didn't help you very much, but that is how she is.

| Is she actually marking - lifting her leg and peeing - or just having accidents? Female dogs will sometimes mark their territory just like males do. Hopefully getting her spayed will help, but you may have to go back to basic potty training to break the habit. It's always best to spay/neuter before any of sexual behaviors start as habits can be difficult to break. I know people who have had good luck with leashing their dogs to them at all times to break them of marking. |

| Females will mark when in heat to leave scent marks for other males...getting her spayed before her 2nd heat will slightly reduce the chance of mammary cancer. After the 3rd or 4th, those chances increase. Spaying before the 1st heat will eliminate mammary cancer. 'Humping our cat' ...too funny, usually it's a dominance thing.

| She's already scheduled to be spayed in June. We were just waiting for her to get to max weight and surprise surprise she couldn't wait any longer. My male westie use to mark, squeeze small amounts out in little circles the size of a dime. I find Jasmine leaves small dots in a line. She must be walking while she's doing it. Fortunately our cat, Jonas loves her and has a wonderful disposition. He takes it all from her (even the humping). He's probably thinking "What in the world is she doing?"
