| How long will she be in heat? Princess started a few days ago and we cant find out anywhere how long she will be in heat. She is very mopey, wont eat and really doesnt like the diaper or the underwear. She is 10 1/2 months old, I think it is early but I am no expert like you guys. So any help would be wonderful and we thank you all in advance. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Sorry...I don't know an answer but I second your question...LOL I don't have a clue when this begins, how long it lasts, what you're supposed to do, or anything related to the subject. Plus, even though I've read different books, it almost seems that it's just "known"... I don't want to steal your thread so I'll stop and ask some questions I'm concerned about...However, I'll be back to see what answers you get! |

| Generally, the cycle lasts 21 to 28 days. I've read 7 days in, 7 days standing, 7 days out. And then I've also seen it said that it's 10/10/10. Here are a few links that explain it: Reproduction, The Heat Cycle, Signs of Heat TalkToTheVet's info-Dogs Heat Cycle How Long Does the Heat Cycle Last in the Dog? |

| As others have stated, generally a heat cycle lasts around 21 days, give or take a day or two. |

All dogs are different. They tell you to spay at 6 months old, and fiona got hers as soon as she turned 7 months old, i was debating with my vet and he told me to wait till the end of the october to get her fixed, and i told him she would be 7 months old with me, and he wanted me to wait.... they can be in heat for about 3 weeks, the first week is when you will see the discharge, she was supposed to get spayed 11/1/08 and it got pushed back till 11/25/08- the vet said she had a false pregnancy which basically meant that her body thought she was pregnant, but really wasnt. so she did fine!
