| Blankie addiction...anybody else? While we were waiting for Puddin' I got busy on my sewing machine making up pads and blankets and such. I bought a large bright pink fleece throw, cut it into four pieces and stitched the edges to keep it from becoming misshapen in the wash. Puddin' has been with us almost 5 weeks now, and she seems to have become addicted to these pink blankies! She won't go to sleep at night without one...she doesn't necessarily sleep under one, she just seems to want to put her face on it. Lately she has taken to sleeping on the pillows at the head of my bed and she is rambunctious and active until I put one of the pink blankies up there and then she settles down and snuggles her face into it and then drops off. She also wants the blankie during the day for lounging or snoozing. Is she just a strange little dog, or is this a common behaviour?

| We have nightie-night blankets and then just regular blankets on the couch and doggie pillows. It's funny how different they act with the different blankets. I have wondered is it the blanket they are reacting to or the time/place/routine. hmmmm, now you've got me thinking. I'm going to have to move them around and see if they'll lay down and snuggle on the bed blankets if I put them on the couch.

| When I got Piper the breeder sent me home with a puppy package which had a pink fleece blanket. Piper loves her blankie. She drags it to where ever she is settling down, whether it's her beds or floor. I also put it in her car seat when we go places. She is definately quite attached to her blankie.

| I think the dogs just get attatched to something they associate with comfort. I have a blanket, it is cotton, and it just feels really good to lay with. I can sleep with whatever really, but that one blanket always feels the best to me. Also, my sister has a rescue dog. Buster was in 4 homes and brought back to the pound 4 times in his first year of life before my sis adopted him. He's with her to stay but he has this thing where he will take the thickest blanket in the 'dog toy area' and get it out and then he rubs his paws on it repeatedly, kind of like when you knead bread, and after a little time he will begin to suck on the blanket. He will lay for a long time with it in his mouth, it is obvious it is comforting to do this. It is really cute. Then he settles down to get some z's. |
