| Would you go to the vet? I posted this in the health section and haven't heard an answer, so I thought I would try here too. I just found the remains of a pencil that my dog chewed up. She chewed and swallowed both ends including the eraser and metal. Do you think I should be worried? I'm not sure whether to take her to the vet. I know if I call them they will tell me to bring her in no matter what. |

| There isn't much the vet will do unless she is showing signs of a problem. She might not have even swallowed it. She might have carried it outside or somewhere else. |

| So I'm a worry-wart anyway, but the lead in the pencil is what would concern me. You might try googling to see if lead is toxic to dogs. These smaller dogs are more sensative to toxins than bigger dogs, as it takes less to effect them. The rest of the pencil will probably just pass through. |

| I don't believe they make pencils with lead any longer. They are made of wood and graphite. I would not worry unless your dog is not acting right.

| Thanks for the support. I have these bad images of the metal scratching up her intestines and causing internal bleeding. Anyways.....I'm going to wait and see if she has any problematic symptoms. Also, I googled to see if the graphite in the pencil is toxic and it looks like it's non-toxic. |

YT 1000 Club Member | I think previous poster is correct that there isn't lead in pencils anymore. I'm sure it'll pass and I'd just keep an eye on it. It's amazing the things they poop out. Speaking of....isn't that a post about crazy things people have seen in their dogs poop? I remember it being pretty funny. |

I had the same thing happen a few days ago with Baylee. I have just been keeping an eye on her. So far, so good!!

| I think it will pass, no pun intended. Bailey ate a eyeliner pencil once and believe me I knew when he passed it.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I would also just watch her and check her poop. Cali ate the whole bottom of a latex toy and I rushed her to the er vet who after xrays and lots of money told me I was feeding her too much and that her tummy was just over filled. she hadn't even eaten that day, one reason I took her in. Next morning she pooped it out whole it was so big I cannot believe she passed it with no problems. Another time I took her to the er vet for a possible blockage and something metalic showed up on the xray, it was a rhinestone bling off my dtrs cell phone cover. She was fine. So hopefully your baby will pass it with no problems.

| Darla ate a pencil a few weeks ago, except for the metal end. It didn't hurt her.
