| Why do they roll in stinky things??? I am sure this may have been asked before, but can someone please tell me why dogs will roll around on something that stinks?? Tobey will be in the yard, sniffing around, finds something smelly, and the rolls on it!!! Like rubbing his head and back on it. YUCK!! Is it because they want to get the smell on themselves OR because they are trying to get their scent on whatever it is?? Today I caught him in time luckily... i think it was some other animals poo... smelled AWFUL. So I And i recognized the smell because he's come in other times smelling like that and then I have to immediately take him in the shower. It's REALLY ANNOYING when it happens in the morning after I let him out and I am trying to get ready for work, you know?? These little ones are silly sometimes

| LOL-because as much as you love Tobey, he is still a dog and still has those instincts I'm not sure why they do it (people have argued about the "why" for years!), but in the end it doesn't matter if you have a Yorkie or an ole "pot likker" hound...they ARE both going to roll in stinkies! BTW-I love that nic-"Pumpkin Pants...too cool! Last edited by IWAY; 09-06-2008 at 12:56 PM. |

| Thanks! I think it stuck because as his coat changed, his leg fur became all gold, which sometimes looks a little orangy. Thus... pumpkin pants I also call him bubs a lot... no reason behind that one tho.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Some people think it's to mask their scent from preditors, others think, it's because they think that smells good, kind of like a teenage boy splashing on Hai Karate.

| Oh if we could only ask them why and have them tell us! Our three love the stinky mulch! Camden also loves to steal the dirty wash cloths from the laundry and she rolls all over them and has a ball!

| Things that make u go hmmm? I was wondering the same thing when my girls do it....why, why, why? Most of the time, it's duck poo since we walk by the lakes a lot...yuk! Luckily, it already dried up and not wet & mushy..

| Gus does that when he picks up the scent of a rabbit. He's been going a little bananas in front of the deck lately because a mom rabbit built a nest for her babies under our deck. I don't understand it, but obviously it could be worse: it could be poo! |

For mine, the STINKIER, the Better! Especially if it's old and stinky. It's just gross. I try my best to keep them away from stinky things, but some things you just can't avoid. One thing they like is bird poo on the deck. They will race to be the first one to roll on it.
