I am sure this may have been asked before, but can someone please tell me why dogs will roll around on something that stinks??

Tobey will be in the yard, sniffing around, finds something smelly, and the rolls on it!!! Like rubbing his head and back on it. YUCK!!

Is it because they want to get the smell on themselves OR because they are trying to get their scent on whatever it is??

Today I caught him in time luckily... i think it was some other animals poo... smelled AWFUL. So I And i recognized the smell because he's come in other times smelling like that and then I have to immediately take him in the shower. It's REALLY ANNOYING when it happens in the morning after I let him out and I am trying to get ready for work, you know??
