| Hi everyone - Newbie here My fiance and I have two yorkies, Okie and Sushi. Okie is almost 14 months old and Sushi will be 1yr in October. We recently went over our friend's apartment and saw her adorable Chihuahua. We've been thinking for a while about getting a third dog. Maybe a Boston Terrier or Chihuahua but I'm aiming towards the Chi. Here's the question. Sushi loves attention and always come sit between us when we're watching TV. Okie is very independent (We got Okie first and then Sushi second). I am thinking that Sushi might be aggressive towards the new puppy. Any advice or experience in this matter would be really great. Thanks. -Dee |

LUV my 3 Furrs & Alex Donating Member | Hello and welcome to YT!!! I don't think there will be a problem, or are there other things he does that you have not mentioned. And usually even if there's aggresion that's caused by jealousy, that can be easily sorted.

| Maybe it's just jealousy. An example, when Okie has a toy he's playing with, Sushi would take it away from him. But he doesn't take it to play with. Just to have it and then would leave it after a couple of seconds. This always happen. Okie never fights back and always walks away. They play fight all the time and it never gets out hand. Okie doesn't play rough but when he does, Sushi would yelp. Okie gets the hint and stops. Sushi can never hurt Okie since he's half the size of him. I'm afraid Sushi will hurt the puppy since he's never been around someone smaller than him. |

| That's a possibility with any dog, and it seems to vary even with how they take to the particular dog you buy. My first took to the second right away, but she still isn't what I'd call friendly with the third and fourth ones. She gets along with them fine now, but it's more like she tolerates them. She often makes a little "hmmph" noise when she walks by them, like she thinks they're beneath her or something. She still just walks up and pushes them out of the way if they're getting my attention. Just make sure you're around to monitor them for at least a few days after you get your new one so you can see how they're getting along. When I get a new animal, I set the carrier down in the room so they can all sniff at each other for a while. It can be a stressful experience for the new dog too, so you don't want to just plop it down on the floor and let the others start jumping on it. Jillian cried for days after we brought her home even though none of the other dogs were being agressive. She was very scared at being taken away from her mom and her littermates. I think you'll be fine with the Chi as long as you give them some adjustment time and you make sure the dogs you already have aren't suffering from lack of attention because you have a new puppy. It's hard not to give a new puppy a lot of attention, but if your other dogs feel neglected, they'll resent the new one and that alone can make them agressive toward it. |

| Hi Dee, welcome to the site! I'm new too, only joined last night but I already love it here! I actually have a Chi but not my Yorkie yet! lol Fraid I cant offer any help with your question, sorry, but I think I agree with Jadecomputergal; it could happen with any dog I reckon. Just make sure you play by the rules, introduce them on neutral ground, give Sushi lots of reassurance and attention, and keep an eye on them for a while. Let us know which you deide on for sure and then once you hve your new baby, wont ya? Jess x |

| Hi!! Welcome!! I have 3 Yorkies and 2 Chis!! Chis and Yorkies have very similar personalities. They are both stubborn, smart, tenacious, and think they are bigger than they are. I would get a chi that is confident and spirited so they can stand up for themselves, I wouldn't get a shaky, shy one!! Good Luck!!
