| Im back and I have a question about coloring! Hi guys!! Ive been on vacation all week and just got home today. Ugh, Im beat, but wanted to come on and say hi and ask a quick question. I forgot to put what color my puppy is for her registration paperwork. Do I put black and tan because thats what she is right now because aren't all Yorkies black and tan when they start out? She has some whitish color on her head now though...Anybody know what color I'm supposed to put? Maybe check out my photo's of Sadie first. Thanks!! |

| When I was registering I was told you mark what your yorkie looks at time of registration. I think later if their color changes you change it.(The way it was explained to me was, you can't mark something that their not because you really don't know what color they mature in to.)

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Joey's breeder filled out the information, and since she wrote blue and gold, I figured that was correct. He wasn't at the time, but now his coat could be described that way. Truthfully, I don't think it's a biggy if you aren't planning on breeding. For his dog license I put black and tan because I think that more people would have an idea of what that meant if he were lost.

| what is the advantage to registering if you are not planning on showing or breeding? i got papers from the breeder but so far, i have had to see an advantage to forking over $20 to get some pointless certificate. |

I believe some of the registries are indeed pointless, but I registered Joey with AKC because after reading about it, I discovered I believed very much in what they are trying to accomplish. They are the only registry the does routine unannounced inspections of kennels, as well as DNA testing. As more states make stricter laws regarding kennels, the AKC can crack down on more puppy millers and suspend them as well. So I look it as a way to contribute toward ending puppy mills, and promote good breeding. The other registries, I do see as pointless, and mislead people into thinking that there dog is more valuable because he's "registered." For more information on registries see: Registries
