| How often should we switch our pet food? I've heard that we should switch dog food every 3-4 months. Do you guys agree with this?

| You don't necessarily "have to" switch foods at all, as long as what you're feeding is working for your dog. I switch flavors for mine, alternating with each bag purchased, but stay within the same brand and grain free (Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance) and my girls never get tummy trouble at all.

| NO - as long as you are feeding a high quality dog food you should stick with it. If you switch your dog will become picky and that's no fun at all. Karen |

| Why Switch? Why would you Switch Dog food? Unless it's a Puppy and grows into an Adult formula? Royal Canine has a Puppy Formula for up to 10 mos. and then you should switch to the Adult Formula, but I would'nt switch brands. I just used that brand as an example b/c that's what I use. But I would'nt swith just to give them a variety? Since doing so gives them Digestive/Bowel problems but once you find something that they will eat every day you should stick with it, otherwise in the long run you'll be stuck with a Finicky eater. Just remember Dogs don't want a choice they like a routine it gives them a sense of security, it is us Dogs Owners that "Humanize" them. Just my opinion. |

But no, there's no need to switch your dog's food once you find a good one - for all the reasons posted above.

| Higher BAt and liver enzymes Quote:
So she switched the food she was feeding them. I have been trying to find studies concerning food : ( ROYAL CANIN, WELLNESS, AND CANIDAE ) To see if yorkies tend to have higher blood test results ( BAT and Amonia levels ) with these foods. Since they are higher in protein. Because since these dogs have had higher percentage then other dogs for having (LIver shunt- and MVD ) liver diseases then higher protein levels in their food would make the test higher and maybe even give off a false postive result for the disease. Then you as a concerned dog owner end up spending alot of money on test that may not ever have had to be done to make sure you have a healthy pup as a preventative issue and as precaution you are breeding a healthy dog. | |
