You don't necessarily "have to" switch foods at all, as long as what you're feeding is working for your dog. I switch flavors for mine, alternating with each bag purchased, but stay within the same brand and grain free (Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance) and my girls never get tummy trouble at all.
